Why is United States still doing business with China?

This was in a weekly email letter put out by Representative Steube in the state of Florida.

Unfortunately we do depend on China for some things. Pure economics, lower the cost of American manufacturing and you could shut China off.

Maybe just maybe, The US China business, read money, connection is the thing that will deter ICBM’s, Drones and boots on the ground. Too much to loose, again read Money…

Bottom line, they have control over what we need. First off, rare earth minerals. They could cripple us if they decided to cut us off from them. We are at least 10 years away from being able to mine what we need. They are not even trying to get control at this point.
At this point our two economies are too intertwined; also, what affects them will affect us. Need look no further than the Strait of Hormuz debockle.

Goes Both Ways. (AI’d for convienience)

The United States possesses several critical resources and capabilities that China either cannot easily obtain elsewhere or can only replace with great difficulty. The most important are advanced semiconductors, aerospace technology, agricultural commodities (especially soybeans), and certain energy exports.

And Unfortunatley, Education, We educate a lot of thier citizens…

Im sure China is feeling the squeeze on energy with what trump is doing.

It’s funny how the rare minerals they have, which we turn into the semiconductors you speak of, are why we are so intertwined.

Did some design and engineering work on the Mountaim Pass Rare Earth Mine modernization. We found it Unbelievable the federal and governmet red tape and road blocks we ran into. We thought we needed that stuff but in reality it was politicians that needed camera time and kick backs.

Yes, sadly, China has been exploiting other countries to acquire them and leaving those countries in ruin, and we can’t get our acts together and offer these countries a better deal. Piss on the regulations here; plenty abroad.
China has significantly impacted the environment and local communities in Myanmar, particularly in the Kachin State, where unchecked, Chinese-backed rare earth mining has caused severe pollution.
Since 2017, mining in rebel-held areas has caused extensive deforestation, water contamination with heavy metals, and health crises, as Chinese firms moved mining operations here to avoid stricter domestic Chinese environmental regulations.

I thought it was the other way around. They own the market because they Don’t Have all of the government hoops. Just for fun, the US emissions regulations for this type of mine and concentrator are massive. Pretty much better air and water out than goes in or is in the environment now.

I believe your views also. I also pray the U.S. can become independent and strong again. (Wants & Hopes)

Makes you really think when what they do to mine these minerals is even too fooked up for China.

Let’s just say mining/refining rear earths is not nice…

The most advanced semiconductors only come from Taiwan, which is why we defend it. And why Biden with bipartisan support passed the Chips Act. These semiconductors need to be made here in the US before China takes back Taiwan.
