It would seem that then, as now, the government was the source of “crime guns”. Clyde Barrow stole his BARs from National Guard armories.
Glad to have you on board with this common sense accessory, now. I believe to most people that don’t enjoy guns is that they see Mr Bond take out the criminals with a “silencer”. When In reality they aren’t as covert as portrayed on the widescreen. Although, as you said, may save some of us from a one word vocabulary, what? What?
Well said
Because we let the government get away with infringement. Vote out the corrupt legislators and call the Judicial Committee. Reports all Federal Judges that break the constitution there are 6 clauses dealing with that.
I tend to think that, since $200 was a LOT of money back then, polititians bought in to the idea that supressors silence firearms and really didn’t want people to have access to them. Today, $200 is really not that much money and anyone that wants one can afford it. The required tax stamp means the government knows everyone that has one, or “applied” for one, and that they therefore must have firearms. Granted, I am not under the illusion that they don’t know anyway via the background checks regardless of their denial that such purchase records are retained by them.
Altough I dont care to own one, I am all for folks owning what ever they want or enjoy having.Yep I use electronic ear pro also.
The pressure that’s propelling the bullet suddenly escaping to atmosphere is where the noise comes from. So a 5” barrel 45 acp will have less pressure than a 3” barrel 9mm. Both are still loud enough to cause hearing damage. Generally the longer the barrel length the less pressure is present when the bullet leaves the barrel.
There’s also a point where the barrel getting longer slows the velocity of the bullet. The pressure pushing it is overcome by the friction of going through the barrel. For example a 22 rifle with a 24” barrel could produce lower velocity than a 16” barrel.
I do hope one day they are no longer NFA.
Interested in one for the house, but way too many loopholes to go through.
ive always thought it amusing that in my early 20s the government insisted that i have a muffler on my sports car for noise pollution, and we tried everything we could to take them off. now as an adult i pay extra money and fill out extra paperwork to put a muffler ON something
one of the greatest tools ive found for getting new shooters into the sport is suppressed rimfire. the cans are fairly cheap as are reliable hosts. now that eforms is back up filling paperwork using something like silencershops kiosks make filing your paperwork that much easier. while i truely believe that by the sentiment conveyed by the founders, that the GCA is unconstitutional. that being said, im not going to let $200 seperate me from something i love and that brings joy to everyone i introduce to it, and $200 for a stamp is a lot cheaper than a prison term
And have you made arrangements, or put it in the name of a trust, so that your heirs can keep it? That is only one of the things wrong with the NFA (enacted in 1934) - it is not part of the GCA (enacted in 1968), which is why it is called an NFA item.
I hope you are a member of the VCDL (VCDL.org). If not, I highly recommmend that you join. We need good people to help defend our rights.
Title 2 of the GCA of 68 is what makes the NFA enforceable, but yes, the NFA, the GCA, and the hughes act (FOPA of 86) are all unconstitutional.
I dont have heirs (that im aware of lol), but yes, they are already willed to my wife in the event of my untimely death. They will be held by my SOT in probate until her stamps would clear. With any luck the SCOTUS will inevitably do their job and disolve the NFA in its entirety, but im not holding my breath.
Yep, been a VCDL member for about 5 years now.
“Title II 9 [of the GCA] amended the NFA” did not remove it, which is why your your next post references the NFA, not the GCA. However, regardless of where in law NFA items are regulated, those regulations and laws are unconstitutional.
Not having a trust, now your wife will need to pay another $200 to keep the device. That may not be a large price for you or her, but for many others, it can be; just more paperwork, wasted time, expense and non-sense.
Glad to hear you support the VCDL. Do you volunteer at events and have you gone to any Lobby Days? They are a good way to engage people and we can always use more volunteers.
i feel we are getting a bit in the weeds here over the NFA lol
unfortunately i have not managed to make it to any recent lobby days, from what i understand the last two years have been messed up anyway due to anti gun politicians allowing giffords and MDA to submit their permit paperwork before the window was even opened, preventing VCDL from the long standing tradition of “lobby day”. the 2020 lobby day was a huge success and i wish i hadnt had to work then.
saddly trusts became a lot bigger PITA when they changed it to having to submit fingerprint cards for everyone on the trust for each item added.
This is new, but suppressors would likely defeat Shot Spotters.
That would probably need to be tested. Remember that suppressors do not change BANG to peep, they change BANG to bang.
Welllll, that depends. They can change bang to virtually nothing in the right configuration.
Have you ever heard an AR type firearm shooing suppressed subsonic .300 blackout? A suppressed .45 ACP? Suppressed bolt action sub sonic .22lr?
You can suppress a firearm to be so quiet you wouldn’t hear it over the sound of an air conditioner.
I understand your point that there are a lot of suppressed firearms that are still loud…my 13.9" 5.56 Rifle with a mini suppressor is still like 140 dB probably. But, in order to not be guilty of intentionally presenting only the part of the facts we like for the agenda at hand, we need to openly acknowledge that you can truly silence a firearm
if its a subsonic round i would imagine this to be correct. my Pact shot timer will not pickup a supressed .22 pistol shooting subs at less than 3 feet of distance
my supressed .45 acp UMP clone is quiet enough all you hear is the bolt and the bullet smack if you shoot a hard target (steel targets or car doors, etc}, supressed subsonic .22 LR into dirt is about as loud as a pellet gun
