Who Is Your Hero?

I’d have to say my wife. She walked by me through a wartime deployment, given me two wonderful kids, and I still wake up next to the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, every day, because shes mine. But make no mistake, she can go from makeup to mud in 3 seconds…

My Dad was my first hero. Taught me the basics so I am able to survive in life and feed my family. He wasn’t racist in anyway, he loved people. I can still hear his voice “look both ways before you cross the street.”

My second hero is my wife. She gets her hands dirty, and can run an impact gun like a pro. I truly have a friend that we shoot, train, hunt, fish, sled, you name it. I am lucky. I had a bad accident in 2018, spent 36 days in a burn unit, she never left my side. That’s probably why I didn’t check out, as I had the opportunity. I love that tom girl side of her. I wish I could post a picture of her wearing coveralls and a safety harness, and a hard hat, but she would not be happy with me. She has taught me many things about life. One of her quotes is “life is an adventure!”

I have to say my hero is my great grandmother. Not many people can say that they knew any of their great grand parents. I was lucky to have had Nona in my life up into my early 20’s and I’m 48 now. She was an amazing woman. Had a heart of gold and would help you in any way that she could. She was ahead of her time and was a very forward thinking woman. I remember hearing the stories about how she was the only woman Foreman at the meatpacking plant. Her husband died in a coal mine explosion when my grandmother was 9 years old and she raised her daughter by herself. The stories that woman could tell you. She also wouldnt take any lip off of anyone as she wasn’t a woman to mess with. I miss her every day but so thankful that I had her in my life for as long as I did.
