Mine still remains Benjamin Franklin, certainly an example of a self-made man - if he’d not charmed the pants off the French Court, we’d have remained English colonies to further exploit.

George Washington. 
His example set the standard to this day. No doubt one of the most influential people ever to grace the history pages. He helped create a world power that would become the beacon for freedom. Incredible man with an incredible American story.

I don’t think there IS actually one great American that stands out among the others - if you add Franklin to the Mount Rushmore quartet, I think you’ve covered the definition of “great”.

Easy. My dad. 26 years Air Force special forces, CMSgt. More medals than he would speak about. He is the measure by which all other heros are measured. Miss him, but I’m thankful he was able to instill in me the man he was – I only hope I can do as well for my kids.

My greatest American is General also President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Like Washington he was first in war and first in peace. We had it better than we knew when he was leading us.
