Interesting topic I have wondered about a lot of late. Chances of me finding my self in that position would be rare, but definitely will do some research on advice. 911 of course… although as of late calls are not being responded to.
I do wonder about not leaving the car. If you are unable to “clear a path” with the vehicle itself, and people were breaking in the windows, it reminds me of what a couple of my Police friends have told me. Sitting in the car is like sitting in your coffin. You have minimal visibility, minimal ability to move, obstacles to shoot through or around, you take the chance you do get “locked” into your car and you become a punching bag or get shot or burned up. Its a really difficult call. Hope none of us ever have to find out.
My first thought is to totally avoid that area of the town.
If I made a mistake and ended up on that street by mistake because i was lost or made a wrong turn, I would try to not escalate the situation by antagonizing them with a verbal altercation.
If I could slowly pull out into the intersection to make a right or left turn to leave, that is my first move. Even if I have to push a few people out of the way.
If the crowd is only protesting and not doing any harm I am also fine to just sit there and let them yell at me. The protesters are just truing to get their point across.
If it is a riot, they have a different mind set from the beginning. They want to destroy property and hurt others not in their group.
If not able to flee with my vehicle from the rioters, I will have my wife on the phone to 911. One of us will have our phone on video record also.
Once the rioters start smashing windows to remove us from our vehicle, I am drawing my weapon to most likely shoot the immediate threat to me and my family.
I hope that we can both get out of the vehicle on the same side to protect my wife. I will use my body to shoot a threat as we work our way out of the rioters crowd.
You have to situational awareness. If that means stopping in the middle of the block to make a u-turn, or drive through an ally, then so be it.
If you have to run a red light and the traffic is clear, so be it.
Flight or Fight!
Yet, if surrounded, the history shows you are in danger.
If surrounded, and you try to ‘slowly push through’ you may have them attack you even more viciously, as they seem to think they have a right to block roads. Then they follow and try to crowd you so you can not leave.
A true protest, one within the bounds of the Constitution, does not impede traffic or your right to freedom of movement and they do NOT surround your vehicle or make threatening movements or verbalizations.
What point are they trying to get across when they block you, block a road, and act lawless… when they surround you and scream at you…
Just a question, to those who would shoot, if the circumstances forced you to do so… glass does crazy things to bullets. Sometimes they go high, low or sideways. Knowing this, in a deadly force encounter, from your vehicle; would you consider the effect the glass would have on your shot?
Absolutely you have to consider a ricochet and breaking glass coming back at you. Hitting an innocent person because projectiles do travel. Are you considering the consequences. There’s a lot to consider at that moment. Scary huh?
Absolutely. Even the different kinds of glass on the same vehicle react differently. The windshield, is a safety glass. It’s more like plastic than glass. The side windows, will shatter, dropping shards of glass all over you, or if it’s out the other side, your passenger/s. Furthermore, how does your ammo/caliber do against auto glass penetration?
That is insane. The domestic terrorism needs to be put down and stopped. Our politicians continue to fail the American people and need to be voted out of office.
Failure is not an option, I was thinking Salem witch trials! If we don’t stop them now, it’s surely coming to a grocery store near you! Voting doesn’t count or work anymore.
The most unfortunate thing is, someone is going to go Rambo!
I removed my original post due to length…Remember, you can die while dialing 911, or you can address the threat. Rarely is there time to do both…Stay away from crowds…You see them, back up, circle around…DO NOT STOP. DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE. Just plan on being your own rescuer…if you don’t think you can do that STAY HOME until things settle down.
Once they chased him down and ran him off the road , so to speak, the truck cutting in front and forcing the car to stop, it becomes a definite self defense issue and shooting would be justified.
As it is, the car did well, backing into the vehicle that tried to block him from the rear, and then leaving…
The Terrorists are running wild… they are lawless.
Indeed, try to get away, but once the truck cut over and forced the car to stop, self defense is justified, they have made it known that there is illegal and life threatening intent. Reckless driving, blocking and running a car off the road.
Shooting might well have been justified, but backing into the following car and escaping works also.
They are Terrorists … they are lawless, and they are being allowed to commit crimes without consequences.
