We are at war. But not in the way we thought

I wonder how much silver came into play? If it held its value during hyper inflation about as well as gold it would be much more useful for smaller trades.

Though I agree that being able to supply your own food, heating fuel and/or having useful supplies or skills to barter with seems like the best defense against hyper inflation.

Silver proved to be just another barter good that was quickly used up. People traded jewelry – gold and silver – for potatoes and coal. So much for precious metals being an inflation hedge.

In my opinion, Congress is unlikely and uninterested in reducing spending or the rate at which it prints money, so individuals should have a plan for how to cope with an inflationary (or hyperinflationary) world. I installed solar panels which reduced my electric bill from $200/month (and rising) to $9/month. Next up an electric vehicle charged by my solar panels to reduce my reliance on gasoline prices. Haven’t figured out yet what to do about my propane heat, but I suppose I could substitute electric heat.

Did the same here with solar panels. My heart attack and all the missed work have significantly postponed our plans for a plug in hybrid but we do have a wood stove and a forest full of fuel.

Ha! I have a forest full of fuel and a non-renewal due to wildfire risk from my insurance carrier to prove it.

Keep on living my friend. Since 2019. One stroke, RA and vasculitis diagnoses, two metal knees and one metal hip. Every day above the grass is a gift. Don’t waste it on idiots, money or the small stuff.

Now, now, you know that burning wood is bad for the enviroment. Just recently the tyrant, excuse me, governor of New York suggested that NYers reduce there use of electric and gas to help limit the effects of the forest fires in Canada. You need to do the same - stop burning wood. What are you a climate change denier?

We are helping restore forest health by thinning the mismanaged and overstocked forests. We are also locally sourcing our fuel supply instead of damaging virgin desert by building more solar farms and power lines and not waisting 1/3 of the generated energy by piping it long distance on the power lines that kill countless migratory birds every year and create more roads bringing more impact into previously undisturbed areasšŸ™‚

Green energy, at least when done on an industrial scale in remote areas is not nearly as green as many would like to think.

Dang, you had to get serious and bring facts and logic to the debate… :sunglasses:

Full disclosure- I am an Environmental Consultant by trade. I get paid by companies to help keep them in compliance with environmental laws.

I also consider myself an environmentalist and conservationist. Those used to be considered very conservative traits and not at all a concern of liberals. I really like having clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. I believe having undeveloped wild areas to hunt, fish and wander in are vitally important as well. I also want to make sure my son and his children have the resources they need to survive and prosper in the future.

However, I don’t particularly agree with many of the solutions being proposed by current environmentalists and the political representatives they support. Many of their ideas are misguided and/or have been co-opted by corporate profiteers who seek only to use the ā€œgreenā€ label to create profits without any care if their actions have a positive or negative effect.

Well-stated and I fully agree.

You’re right but consider this: the boycott continues - two months after it began. My local store has cancelled all Anheuser-Busch deliveries for the foreseeable future and now carries only Modelo and Coors. This is in rural America, not suburban America. It has never been about driving them into bankruptcy - that’s impossible and a foolish pipe-dream. It is about disruption.

Damn good statement.

Yes. We do have a choice! You can choose Blackout instead of Starbucks. You can support small business instead of Target. etc. And for those who poo poo the word choice:

Explain to me, how a YouTube channel like Tim Poole can garner more viewers than CNN? How can Tucker on Twitter amass over 100 million views on a single Twitter cast? What is with Stephen A Smith - a representative of the Mouse channel - ranting on his podcast about liberal politics?

People are tired of the obvious BS. Black people. Asians. Latinos. and many other ethnic groups. They want a choice. They see what happens when you legalize shoplifting. They see what happens when you turn your city into a refuge for criminals and the homeless. They want a choice. So dammit, let’s give them one.
