Training with a weapon is like training with any other tool the more you train the more proficient you are. The more proficient you are the safer you become. The problem some have is they think training with a firearm is just shooting. They don’t know that caring gun owners train on how to avoid conflict and situational awareness so that the weapon is a last resort.
Heard a phrase, “it’s our shield, not a sword”. I kinda liked the simplicity of it.
I mean, I get the idea, but, it’s not a shield. It can’t really stop incoming. Would be cool if it functioned as a shield, but, it doesn’t exactly
Now if you wore body armour, might be a more technically sound analogy
Welcome Doug108.
Appreciate your post, I copied it into my training log at home. I’ll make note of it at my range visits.
Peace.

So, with proper training, we can learn to stack bacon like that? How do you imagine a prosecutor would use that against us?
Welcome aboard sir! We are glad you are here
Damned if you, damned if you don’t. Guess I will keep training, safety included.
Hello and welcome @Doug108
Agree with your point @William191
Arguing that anyone who carries a firearm and seeks to learn to safely and effectively use it is a bloodthirsty individual who wants to go out and harm people is the exact same thing as saying anyone who puts on their seatbelt is a demolition driver wanna be who is looking to go out and crash into other cars.
I could never make a stack of bacon that high because I would be eating it faster than I could stack it. That is the main reasons I don’t cook bacon very often!
Question: Do you cook your bacon until it’s crisp enough to do a full on plank?
(if you don’t, you’re wrong…just saying)
The only chance I get to enjoy beacon is on the forum.
Though if all the soldiers on one side only carried shields the side carrying the swords would eventually win the day. Probably rather quickly. The best defense is a good offense.
Perhaps.
Depends on their skill and the shield in question, I suppose…as a pretend student of ancient history, some of those shields can be wielded offensively pretty well, I read.
But equal skill yeah I’m taking the all swords in the wager.
Or…the all axes
The group I used to play with wouldn’t allow shield punches. So I opted to fight with styles that didn’t employ one.
My favorite was longsword for one on one fights, and being able to pick apart a shield man when fighting with just a single blade is a great feeling!
My second favorite style was bearded axe in melee. Hooking shields and ripping them off of opponents arms, leaving them totally vulnerable.
Once a week my wife will make a “Country Supper” eggs, grits, and bacon and toast. By the time she is done cooking there might be 6 strips of bacon, out of a pound, left because I have been snagging bacon as fast as she cooks it. Bacon makes everything better.
… except your cholesterol level…
@Doug108 Welcome to the community!
That depends on what you consider a “good” level. Then there is the science proving cholesterol isn’t actually the issue.
