TN gun laws

Looking through the reciprocity area of USCCA and I can’t find if TN is like KY in that if I ignore a store’s sign on the door and go in anyway; is that a crime or a trespassing assuming it’s noticed?

If you have a permit to “CCW” it’s at least a rule violation that may put your CCW at risk of being revoked.

I am not sure of criminal charges but, I think that you could be charged with trespassing.

I will attempt to look that up more specifically.

In Tennessee, carrying a handgun into a business with posted signs prohibiting firearms is considered a Class B misdemeanor . This offense is punishable by a fine of up to $500[1]

Since I am a resident / citizen of Tennessee,
and should know this, I will take the responsibility of answering the question:

Thank you Frank for your help. Read through the links you provided and if I get the legalize correct; you can go into places that are posted IF you have an enhanced permit and looking at the requirements for the KY those requirements are met. Since KY doesn’t offer an EHCC permit I do believe my CCDW covers it.

You are most welcome .

I like to afford myself the greatest number of options, and latitude with the most freedom, and lest restrictions.

So, not being a prohibited person in Tennessee where I can Carry Permitless but, to afford myself the most places, and spaces to carry I will get my Tennessee ECHP Enhanced Carry Handgun Permit.

When I was a citizen resident of a northern border state with Canada, one of the five that issues an “Enhance” Real ID driver licenses not just with a star for Domestic Flight TSA approved, but with an American :us: flag, acceptable for U.S. / Canadian land, and water border crossing in both directions like a U.S. Passport Card allows, I got that.

Learning about that, and the need for an actual U.S. Passport Book for all international air travel including just a helicopter hop over the St. Lawrence River / Seaway, I got both the card, and book.

Being involved in a fraternity that has worldwide representation, and does “hands across the boarder” invitational events.

I was interested to take part.

But, then the pandemic happened, and the border closed to casual travel.

I moved to Tennessee, and had to surrender my driver license to convert it to a Tennessee driver license, and lost the enhanced status but, got the Real ID Star version.

So, I still have all my bases covered for all types of travel domestic, and international.

Even if I never renew my Passport Card and Book at the end of their 10-year validity period, and they are not good for travel they are always proof of U.S. citizenship for all purposes including getting a replacement passport.

I consider it a badge of honor to be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Retired Military Veteran, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, among my most cherished titles.

USCCA has a gun law(s) / reciprocity webpage, indicate your state of residence / permit first, and than other states of interest, like on a travel route to compare them.

I am not familiar with KY.

Its primary purpose is to bring CCW gun owners up to speed with their home state, and other states that they may visit so that you don’t violate any laws in any state you are in.

What is OK, in your state might not be in an adjacent state.

Don’t make any false assumptions, and stay out of trouble by obeying the law of the state you are in.

Yes I looked there and didn’t find the info I was looking for. Specifically ignoring the no weapons allowed sign. The penalty varies from state to state. In KY it’s a trespass until you decide to be an ass-hole, cops are called and they tell you to leave and you don’t.

I’m making regular trips to Knoxville and want to be on the right side of the law. @Frank261 gave me a few good links. I went out to Red Robin last night and I didn’t see any signage and ate a good burger.

With this admin’s letting in thousands of criminals, I don’t want to be unarmed going out. I’m not going to be a victim nor is my wife while I’m around her.

I concur 100%.

My thoughts exactly, and they are here, or passing through on our Interstate Highway System going everywhere.

They might go exploring for targets of opportunity anywhere along their way.

You need to maintain your situational awareness so as not to become one of their targets of opportunity anywhere.

Not just on or near an Interstate but, well beyond as well.

Hahaha, while eating a cpl guys came in that looked like they just came out of the head of a hollar. T shirts too short, beer bellies hanging over their gym shorts but they looked clean. The hosts wanted to seat them away from the crowd but one was insistent on where he wanted to sit. In the end it all worked out and was a quiet evening.
