After having spent 30 years in Law Enforcement as a Crisis Negotiator, Firearms Instructor,…etc, your response to this is so good. Avoiding a situation isn’t always going to be possible but in this case, it could have been avoided. What happened just makes the Police function more complicated and the Lord knows they don’t need any more of that. Let common sense prevail in all that you do and being a good witness is indeed the best thing that you can do to help in most cases.
This is similar to a recent incident in Idaho. Police were searching for a possibly armed suspect who had fled a traffic stop. A citizen grabbed his pistol and step out into his own backyard where he was shot by police.
