I say we can keep it cool, but the problem with organizations who are supposed to stand up for our rights and go under pretense if constitutionalists whi I proudly Am, theres way too much let’s not talk about what’s happening out there while the bad guys are tearing our country to Shreds!! Where are all the bad _____ who say how horrible these protests and destruction are but di nothing about it, except polish their gun fan expensive guns m, talk about all their guns and range trips but di Nothing to help keep iir country Great and whatever possible to stop this destruction from, YES, the left while blaming the most patriotic and caring President Trump, for the actions if the other side! Just saying. Yes, we discuss our firearms, truos to the range, other things like what we did over the weekend and our vacations, but like every other supposed constitutionialists and groups who vow to keep our country strong and free from internal terrorism we brow beat anybody on these threads who speaks up against the destruction of everything we worked for, built and that keeps us strong! Turning away from and ignoring what’s happening from coast to coast just empowers those who are ripping our GREAT NATION apart. Just saying. A real shame…

Ok, dont want to give you more stress Tex. Suffice to say, I DO have a life, and a family. That’s why I’m trying to generate those who are hiding from this destruction on Hope’s by hiding and turning it off itll just go away! I’ll honor your request and take it elsewhere to others who are also fed up and who WILL fight back to preserve our country for those who would rather tune it all out in hopes it’ll just disappear. Here is an idea that I hope you will consider.
’OFTEN’ these days the threads seem to wander to current events. It’s not a failing of the community given that so many have succumbed to the sin. Rather than closing complete threads for wandering off topic, why not just recategoize it if that’s what people are more interested in talking about? Or simply chop the last couple of comments off of the thread about ‘cats and dogs with guns’ , leave the rest if they add value to the broad topic of defense, and move the new conversation to a new or existing thread in Current Events or 2A or whatever.
How about not dumping a ton of more work and responsibility on @Dawn?
Easy fix… everyone keep to the existing community guidelines and save your op-eds for political threads.
That would be OK as well. I would even say it’s preferred. I’ve been around long enough, and taken part in enough closed threads, that now I am usually able to catch myself in the act and I think I may have even helped to bring a couple back on track.
But before you get too frustrated and/condemn the sinners whos patriotism or concen is triggered by a thread about the 4th of July or a picture of a wombat waving a flag: Please realize that we all, even you, have the capacity to add to the fray and impact how this community at large is perceived by new, and non, members.
If you put yourself on the outside looking in, what would you think when a thread ends with words like
- You are a fool
- stay safe (sarcasm intended)
- check your spelling and grammar… ‘fool impied’
- hey DAWN, here’s ANOTHER ONE.
If and when it comes to a wandering thread that steps into the national topic of the day, it’s probably not that much more work for her to move a couple of comments to a new location than it is to kill the thread and add the boilerplate reminders, and to her credit I think she usually does it now as long as thing are remaining civil.
Of course if the conversation steps into an area where someone is inciting violence, crossing the lines of morality, or is simply name calling then there are issues other than differing intrests that truly do make Dawn earn her keep, figuratively speaking.
And now I’m off topic again…see how easy that is.
I would think… “Wow, a forum with honesty”. I learned in business that sometimes a personal public execution is beneficial to the whole.

What you call ‘public execution’ many in the business world call peer pressure . It is absolutely a valuable tool when used correctly. When it crosses the line into an ‘execution’ it more often than not backfires by invoking sympathy for the executed. Name calling is never justified in any professional setting, even when we are right.
Another tool that can be used to solve a complex problem is a form of functional decomposition. Break the matter into its component features and look for common denominators. In this case, I would say the vast majority of the ‘deviated threads’ have a concern over current events and their impact on the constitution as well as personal safety of everyone in common. We can’t make everyone follow the rules, or even be aware of them, but it is possible to create a process to deal with them constructively and without making people feel shut down.
Almost forgot. My comments were directed at YOU, and Only you! So Dont say us , as I’m not directing comments to anyone else but YOU. You cant event make your points without bringing in everybody else , “us”. But ones like you will always include other people who have nothing to do with you, to a debate or argument to give you more comfort. Dont be so nervous about things, take a deep breath, it’ll be ok,

@Greg35 You are right. There are a lot of times threads wander off topic today - such as this one has. If there is a good conversation that needs to have a separate thread, we do our best to create a new thread with the topic.
However, when topics not only go off thread but name calling, personal attacks and overall disrespectful behavior are part of going off topic, we do not create a new thread as all of that behavior is against the Community Guidelines.
@Jerzees thank you for stepping in and trying to redirect the conversation to topic and suggesting a viable alternative to @TexasEskimo and @Michael358.
