Survival Item: Universal Handcuff Key

One survival item in my kits, my wallet, my keychain, my house, my car, my toolboxes I won’t do without:

A universal handcuff key.

I own a couple dozen of them and have them lying around kinda everywhere. They open most handcuffs and could really get yourself and/or a friend(s) out of a jam sometime.

I own universal handcuff keys that are made of composite materials that cannot be detected by metal detectors.

Get a load of them today! Ya never know when ya might need 'em!

I never thought of that one. I suppose it could be useful and since they would be easy to carry it seems to be a good idea.

Didn’t happen to me but to a guy I knew. Met a girl at a bar. Go back to his place for some “light kink”. She cuffs him to the headboard and then robbed him blind. Left him there embarrassed and angry.

I’ve kept a handcuff key with me ever since.

My girlfriend has one that she was given by her ex-husband who was a local cop. I never thought that it could come in handy someday. Guess I am going to want to see if I can find one. Ted64, where did you get composite ones?

LEO’s have beenI handcuffed with their own cuffs in the past. I always carried a spare key as part of my EDC when I was in law enforcement. I stopped after retiring but it’s a good idea to do so. I carried the easily concealed small key taped inside my belt.

I have carried one for years, along with bobby pins, old credit card and larger flat bread ties, these items can get you into and out of many things.

I’ve seen videos of people saying to carry one. I didn’t think much of it. What would some of the usages?

Shimming locks and keeping locks open. Learned from inmates.

Thanks. I am new to this site as well as getting my CCL in Oregon. My GF and I recently took a certification class to be able to get the licenses.

As metal cuffs are falling out of favor and zips are mostly the norm I have a 36” length of 100lb test Kevlar line in my pocket or tied around my waist when I travel.

My duty pants have a small pocket in the center back part of the waist specifically designed to carry a handcuff key. The brand is LA Police Gear.

I found my composites on eBay years ago. Applogies, I can’t direct you to anything specific right now. Shouldn’t be hard to find though.

You can walk into any cop supply shop and grab a handful of the ordinary metal ones.

Here you go. I went shopping after I read your post and ordered five more composite keys.

Duct tape the key to the inside of the back of your belt. Or the inside of your boots.
