Support hand drawing

As in an entry by Mike167 on Dec. 22 I’ve been lax on practicing with my support hand. I’ve been practicing firing with my support hand regularly but not drawing my firearm from my right hip owb holster with my support hand (left). I draw, manipulate firearm to firing hold, aquire sight on target, fire, eject empty magazine, insert firearm into left front pocket, load full magazine, re-aquire shooting grip on firearm as I remove it from pocket, release slidelock, re-aquire aim on target and continue shooting. All while not losing sight of target.
I’ve noticed as I practice this my timing has gotten better.
Going to be a weekly practice for me now on.

I like when people practice for any possible scenario.
We have been discussing this few times already and not everyone seen the needs for such training.

How much time, do you think, it took you to be proficient with drawing and manipulation with support hand at the level you can really do this in stressful situation?

In my case both hand manipulation was a big factor while choosing carry method. AIWB is perfect for this.

Jerzy, I’m not classifying myself as proficient just for the reasons of it depends on how I’m dressed. Even a change of shirt material weight and length changes my times. I’ve found though that an optic does help with unlocking the slide sometimes using my belt or pants pocket rim.
By practicing as much as possible, doing different types of practice about every other day, hopefully embeds the knowledge enough in my brain so I can react correctly if needed.
#1 practice is awareness & evade in my book.

I still haven’t figured out a good way to get a shooting grip with my support hand while drawing from AIWB. I can draw and get into a shooting grip but it is slow and awkward. When I used to carry at 8 o’clock (I’m a lefty) I could pretty easily reach around my back and get a full grip before starting the draw.

You’ve presented a problem for me. And I must admit that I have to find a solution. As I considered this query, I attempted to draw with my support hand from my strong side (as I carry more 3:15), I found it very, very difficult to draw from my retention holster. If I were dependent on drawing from it, I’d be dead 10 times over. So, I must figure something out here, because I, too, have been lax in this area. Darn it, I hate having to admit this, but truth beckons.

I think this is personal and depend on how your body is built.
I’m having a problem reaching behind my back, so AIWB was a best option for me.

Yes, that is a factor that has to be considered when doing any practice operations. Also the consideration at live fire range and having a certified instructor present.

I don’t find the juice to be worth the squeeze on this one.

YMMV
