Not a good idea, one of the reasons for shooting center of mass is to do as much as possible to ensure the bullet does not go through the target and injure or kill someone else downrange.
And a hand will not do that.

Without training under stress neither gun makes a difference, all that counts is how many times the intended target it hit, nothing more and nothing less.

With guards guns are more for deterrence then for use.
I used to work with a State of Florida firearms instructor who’s work was primarily training security guards so they could be certified to carry a gun while on the job.
In the latter part of the training one of the things we told the new guards is when they complete their company training they will be issued uniforms a duty belt with a holster and revolver, my advice to each of you is never use that gun when you get it smear it down with super glue stick it in the holster and never take it out.
The reason is if you ever shoot someone your life will become a living He**.

Shoot to wound? Who would have the time? The reason to return fire is to defend yourself or some others from being killed. If no one is in danger of being killed, why did you draw your gun? There are no guarantees, that when you shoot someone, that person will not die. I was trained to shoot at the torso (largest target, body mass). With the adrenalin pumping and heart rate at a high level, it is doubtful that I would be able to make a headshot, much less hand, leg or finger.To get the job done and stop the threat, shoot for the body mass.

It’s a officers job to disarm, detain and possibly arrest such a suspect, if
he is not issued a TASER he has to work with the tools and training he has,
calling for backup might be a great idea if any is nearby, but he simply
just give the guy distance and do nothing.

Never say never.
I can think of a few reasons to risk this. I am married to one. The one I’m married to gave birth to the others. I recognize I’m taking your post a bit out of the context of the security guards. However, if I’m the security guard and I never pull that gun, I may not come home to those other reasons at the end of my shift. Also, a lot of incidents (at least with civilians) are stopped before the trigger is pulled but after the gun clears leather.

I was training a lady cop ans we were using simunition and chasing each other around a cruiser. I knew she was behind it, so i dropped on my belly and shot her in the ankle. She simply yelled, you mother f-er. Hahahah

I, too, occasionally engage in conversations with Anti-Gun idiots (I’ve been doing it longer so I am not as kind as you), but that is a false premise designed by Liberals to make you look blood thirsty. It is nearly as foolish to try to answer the question as it is to ask it . . . nearly! Why carry a gun in the first place if you care more about the life of someone trying to take yours, than you care about defending your own?
The central issue here is Self-Defense - the only defense against a charge of murder that when proven in a court of law results in total exoneration of the accused, and it is sometimes called “Legal Murder.” The Human Right to defend YOUR life with deadly force has known limits of which we are all aware but, nonetheless, it has been recognized for thousands of years across all civilizations as a justification to kill.
Someone asking that question lacks the self-preservation mindset required to qualify as a CCW carrier. Why? Because indecision will kill you as surely as the assailant. If you find yourself in a life or death situation and you are justified in drawing your weapon (the threat is real and imminent) you are justified in shooting to kill … and you should! Shooting to WOUND or knock the gun out of the assailant’s hand is early Hollywood Western’s version of the good guy with a gun scenario, requires superhuman marksmanship or luck and is pure fantasy.
Fire at the attacker in the easiest (largest) area to hit: Center Mass - double tap. If he keeps coming, now that he’s closer aim for the interocular “T” formed by the eyes, nose and mouth and it’s lights out!
It’s better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

But i did get reamed here with my ending a Gunfight as quick as possible w/ a Head shot!’ and equally reamed w/ my 'DO NOT HESITATE, DO NOT FLINCH ! You hesitate you die!
