Just figured I would reach out to the gallery…
Anyone have one of these sonic cleaners for pistols/cleaning brass?
Are they worth the time and money?
Thanks for your help!
Hello there. I was wondering the same thing. I would like to join you on your quest to find out more about sonic cleaners. Thanks for asking this.
I have a sonic cleaner and I love it. I use it for gun cleaning and brass cleaning for reloading. I have used it to clean an old pocketknife that needed some TLC. On gun cleaning it breaks the gun powder down and giving a good cleaning. It does not do all the work but, it breaks the gun powder and residue loose. So then all you have to do is some brush running and wiping down. I like how it cleans the brass too. It does not polish the brass but, it does clean it very good. Well worth it!
Todd30,
As far as pistols/gun parts, you can drop the whole frame of a semi auto in to it?
Thanks
Jim
I break them down first and they all go in the tank.
@Todd30
how broken down? like field stripped, or pull out every single piece?
And what’s a good one to buy? Amazon link? cabelas?
Just a basic break down of main parts. I use the Hornady Lock N Load Sonic Cleaner. I am going to go to the VEVOR Commercial Ultrasonic Cleaner 6L Heated. Can find these on Amazon.
So it doesn’t hurt the polymar frame… it just cleans the metal?
I’ve never used one. Assuming wood or other natural material (stag) grips come off before the parts go in the tank?
Sonic cleaners are great in the proper application. The other thing to keep in mind is what cleaning fluid you use. I have not used mine on anything polymer, only metal, but if you use the wrong chemicals, you can at the very least strip your finish, but at least it will be super clean. So, do your homework on your combination of cleaning fluid and application. But I have had great luck using mine on black powder revolvers and my suppressors.
Todd30, thanks for your input. I have a drum tumbler and I think I will try the sonic cleaner out. As you said it cleans more than just brass, metal tools and such even folding knives, which are hard to clean. Thanks again. Stay safe.
I have cleaned polymer. I do not use the heating element on it when cleaning.
I would not use natural materials in it. Polymer with no heat.
I use my tumbler for polishing the brass after cleaning in the sonic cleaner. The sonic cleaner cleans it but does not polish it.
Thank you for the advice on the tumbler and the sonic cleaner. I will add a sonic cleaner in my shop.
