Shotgun Ammo Dangers when using for Self Defense / Home Invasion

It shouldn’t be the first thing you grab, but if you think you have a second, grabbing some electronic ear protection is a good idea. Electronic ear protection blocks loud noises (gunshots) and amplifies “normal” sounds. So you can maybe hear that bad guy creeping or breathing or whispering to his buddies giving you an advantage. And maybe saving your hearing in the process.

Additionally, there was an incident a few years ago where a homeowner shot an intruder and when the police responded they gave him commands but he couldn’t hear the police and they ended up shooting him (because he wouldn’t drop his firearm because he didn’t hear them). So it’s not just long-term hearing loss that is the danger.

Again, it’s not the first thing I’d grab or the most important, but if I felt like I had a moment (depending on when/where/how the threat enters your home) I’d grab electronic ear pro if I could.

There are a couple threads in here for a “bump in the night belt” or “bump in the night bag” (like this one) so you can keep stuff with you without taking like 5mins to assemble everything you might need.
