Some of the kids are not taught respect like we was when we was younger. If we did something wrong we had our butts lick and told not to do it again. Now a lot of kids tell their parents what to do and do what they want.

That’s always been the problem with the anti gun people. One more problem they never address is the Laws on the books aren’t enforced. Criminals keep getting let out of jail or not charged at all. It seems bizarre that the same people that cover for criminals want to throw the book at law abiding honest gun owners.

I think there’s an opportunity for a pretty deep conversation about reducing horrific crimes in America, if people are willing to talk. Right now, they aren’t. It’s just politicians, entertainers, and fundraisers trying to get their quippy zingers out there. But if your entire argument fits on a bumper sticker, you probably don’t really understand the issue. There’s an old quote that says “For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.”
I kind of understand where the gun banners come from. It’s easy to blame the object. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be the parent of a child killed in a school shooting or a gang-related drive-by, but in the fruitless search to make sense of the loss, I can understand why it’s simpler to say “ban guns” rather than trying to understand the totality of circumstances that led to a child being killed.
But it’s that complete dismissal of the totality of circumstances that keep me from taking the anti-gun folks seriously. Perhaps if someone murders a child, they should be hung in the public square and their body eaten by crows to warn off others who might commit similar crimes. But we (Americans) don’t do that, we have charities raise their bail and we give them light sentences, then pat ourselves on the back for being so enlightened. After all, we blamed the gun, right? It’s not the gangs, or the drugs, or the poverty-stricken neighborhoods where we don’t send police, or unchecked violence in the streets, or the revolving door at the penitentiary, or untreated mental illness… it’s the gun. That’s much simpler to think about.

The only thing that will help this type of crime is to stop catering to the violent thug culture, call it what it is and make a real effort to fix the problem. Stop blaming America and white people for one’s ills. Look at any area that has the highest crime rates. They weren’t like that to start out, they became that way. Not one gun control law on the books or they are trying to pass will deter, curtail or prevent any crime. All gun control laws do is prevents honest citizens the opportunity to protect themselves and their families from attacks by criminals and especially, their own government. That’s what it’s all about. The politicians know that and that is why these communist politicians and organizations push gun control. Everyone has noticed the escalation of crime in this country, since the barry (obama) soetoro administration. Especially in the minority communities. Fueled by the acceptance, promotion and support from the democrat (communist) party. The demonization of law enforcement the courts, stifling of opposition, politicizing the branches of government, the doj, fbi, cia, irs…, going after political opponents, parents, private citizens and opposition groups is very obvious and in the open these days. Could you imagine what would have happened in this country if citizens were not allowed to own firearms, when the political party that, at first opposed and didn’t trust the covid shot until they took power, wanted to force everyone to get jabbed? They would have been kicking doors in, like they did in china, and forcing injections on people. Please don’t call me a racist (most people don’t know the meaning of that word) these are facts, pure and simple. Everyone knows it but are afraid to say it, that’s why it will never be fixed.

Bravo! At least someone is addressing the core issue in a thoughtful, rational and concerned manner rather than smart-ass quipping about unrelated nonsense. I would add that, in many respects, the state of education in this country that ignores instruction in Critical Thinking and problem solving makes the issue more difficult . . . both from an understanding point of view in those who have not benefited from such instruction and in proposing solutions. The simple solution of banning the object lends itself to empathy with the victim and ignores the fact the tragedy could have been averted by applying Common Sense principles reflecting Human Nature. But that requires society to change directions in several ways, which in effect is admitting fault. and contrary to Human Nature.
Common Sense results from Critical Thinking over time. In this case, Common Sense may be counter-intuitive to the anti-gun crowd who nether understand nor believe the maxim, “An armed society is a polite society”. History and experience both prove this is true.
It is logistically impossible to get rid of all the guns. Passing a law attempting to do that (Australia) will leave guns in the hands of and accessible only to criminals who PREY upon the innocent, weak and defenseless members of society, thus INCREASING the problem rather than solving it (Col. David R. Grossman - “Sheep, Wolves and Sheep Dogs”).
Professor John R. Lott, Jr. of the Chicago School of Law and his assistant David Mustard set about to prove that the presence of guns in society contributed to more crime. Their study used the FBI’s own crime statistics from ALL 3,141 U.S. Counties covering a period of 17 years. The previous most extensive study used statistics from 170 of America’s largest cities for a period of one year and was the study upon which the anti-gun culture based its fallacious argument.
Half way through their research, they were forced to change the proposed title of their book to “More Guns - Less Crime” for their first printing and, in each updated printing since, the results have been consistent. One of the key elements of their findings shows that women experienced the greatest benefit with dramatic decreases in murders, assaults, rapes and robberies in areas where a “Shall Issue” format for the issuance of gun permits was in effect. Questioning of criminals in prisons showed the reason: Women who did NOT carry weapons benefited from their sisters who DID because criminals couldn’t tell who was carrying and who wasn’t. That is also a great argument for Concealed Carry rather than Open Carry, too.
I believe the root cause is based on changes in our educational curricula that have taken place over the last two generations, using our kids as lab rats for the teaching of failed philosophies like Secular Humanism, Moral Relativism, Values Clarification and others resulting from the Hippie rebellion against societal norms beginning in the 1960’s. My generation used to take guns to school in our cars and trucks, so that we could go hunting on the way home. Teachers shared the interest in gun-related activities including reloading ammunition and target practice, and not only was information exchanged, but guns occasionally were traded. Not ONCE in my experience or memory did anything unsavory result from having guns in a school environment.
There are and will be those who disagree with me. THEY, in the vast majority of cases, have not LIVED through these changes as I have and therefore have not benefited from the perspective of having lived in both cultures; nor can they understand with clarity how certain attitudinal changes have either caused or contributed to contemporary problems. I will go so far as to assert that some of these changes and their negative results are intentional, because the solutions to them are known but ignored.
Progressives always move forward rather than acknowledging mistakes and returning to policies of the past that work. Instead of accepting the fact their “solutions” have made matters worse, they compound the problem by proposing more inane “solutions” to “fix” the new problems rather than looking to the past. That is why we find ourselves so far down the road to oblivion today.
