VZ grips, replacing the plastic trigger with aluminum trigger, adjusting springs for a consistent 5 pound trigger pull, and a much heavier than factory recoil spring* all came together to make a surprisingly easy little shooter.
- 22 lb recoil spring on a 9mm ( 22lb Flat Wound Recoil Spring for Kimber Micro 9 Pistols )

Had a father/son/friend outing at the range today. This is my friend’s son’s target. Not bad for his first time shooting. Was shooting a bit low, but grouping was good. We took a deep dive into safety and technique and really just got them exposed to shooting for the first time.
We had a great time. My son’s friend has never shot before and wanted to shoot. We shot a bit of everything.
My friend wondered why he had a second big hole in his shotgun target. So he learned what a “wad” is. Great learning experience. Also got the chance to give my own son a bit more formalized instruction since I was teaching new shooters.

I didn’t even know what these were until a couple of months ago. It was a beautiful day in Santa Fe, perfect to go out and do some testing. This is Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 153.5 gr at 200 yards.
7 different bullet seating depths, left to right, and top to bottom:
0.169” (stock), 0.090”, 0.075”, 0.060”,
0.045”, 0.030”, 0.015”, my setup.
I don’t think I even need statistical analysis to understand the 0.075” is best.

Berger is the ammo manufacturer. The rifle is a Sig Cross-PRS with a 24” barrel and a Daniel Defense SG-30TIL suppressor. The optic is a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 FFP.

But yeah, that’s a great set-up you have there. Reason why I asked, Been looking into a Sig Cross Sawtooth but stuck on choices of scopes, thanks for the info!

I found both Ryan Cleckner’s Long Range Shooting Handbook, and Shepard Humphries & Scott Austin’s book, Extreme Long Range Shooting Fun, to be very helpful when considering what to buy.
I’m very happy with my Sig Cross. It’s been a very satisfying factory build, and even without tuning my ammo, I’ve been able to hit a 16” target at 1+ mile.
Looking forward to seeing what you put together.

That red paint is pretty faded. You might need to repaint it so you can see it.
