As an educator by trade, I’m always analyzing and reflecting on each drill session. I’m still slapping at my trigger. More than I would like to of course. I have worked on my breathing and that has helped out some. I’ve only been drilling since December and where I am now vs. where I was is night and day.
As far as fixing it, I have some private lesson time this coming weekend and hopefully can work on this some. When I am home and not traveling for work I am dry fire practicing (with a coin on top of the slide and drawing from my AIWB holster).
I work for a diagnostic assessment edtech company where I train teachers how to effectively use their student data to help students. I’m thinking about getting a MantisX system because i’m a very data driven type of teacher. Going to wait until after my private instruction though to decide.
The Mantis-X system is a very good tool. Even with a (perfect) shot it will tell you what you did wrong. It is a very helpful tool for self-diagnosing any bad habits. I use it it myself too!
Got the new Canik Rival out to the range today. Wind was blowing pretty steady but swirly at 20mph or so with gusts up to 40ish. Could only use the heavy steel targets so didn’t get a chance to check out how well the sights were lined up and just how accurate it is.
Both targets at 33 feet. First one was 20 rounds in a row at a mix of 2 to 3 rounds per second just trying to learn how to get a quick sight picture with the fiber optic front sight. Second target was 18 rounds slow draw and present followed by rapid double and triple taps as fast as I could see the sight come back on the target.
Not sure if it is me or the sights trending right. When I did slow down on some of the other mags and focus on mechanics I was still trending slightly right.
I was a bit worried at first since I had come across a bunch of posts saying that the Steel framed Canik Rival had issues with flat nosed ammo. All the 9mm practice ammo I have at the moment is flat nosed. I couldn’t find any comments on the polymer frame Rival having issues but when I loaded the first mag and released the slide a little too softly the first round hung up on the feed ramp for a split second before chambering. But it and all the rest of the rounds all worked just fine. Put over 150 flat nosed FMJ and 41 Fed HST SD rounds through it. No hiccups and all the brass landed in a nice neat circle instead of scattered around in random pockets like my other pistols often do.
In such case I always reverse my two hand grip. If I still shoot slightly right (I’m lefty) I know sight / dot adjustment is needed. If I’m dead center… it’s time to work on trigger control
Maybe it has a different length of pull than what you are used to. That might make you tend to pull your trigger/index finger towards your thumb rather than towards the web of your hand.
If I miss 3/17 at 10 yards I would be pissed with myself,…
But at 35?
Yeah, I’d like to tighten that up, but even being on paper at that range is pretty damned good!
The range marshals at my local 25 yard indoor range are always impressed when i run the target all the way to the backstop and bring it back full of holes!
Last range day target set to 5 yards, 75% scale silhouette. Can’t draw from concealed, so from low ready. Mag dumped 13 rounds, reloaded as quickly as I could from concealed mag, dumped the other 12. (I don’t have a timer and I’m no Jerry Mitchulek, but fast for me!)
