I have a legal question regarding the new law going into effect, 10/23/24 in MA.
I’m lookin to purchase an AR, preferably Preban ‘94.
From my understanding anything bought/possessed in MA by/before 8/1 is considered grandfathered. If I were to purchase an AR from someone in MA(Preban) is it subject to the AWB criteria of only 2 evil features or does that still not count because it’s ‘94?
I’m also looking at buying a mini 14 from a dealer(new) before 10/23, is this something that would then become illegal in the state of Ma? I understand the uncertainty but just looking for guidance on the way I should go about purchasing either or both of these.
Yeah it’s brutal here, and only getting worse.
I think a dealer wouldn’t be selling something they shouldn’t, most shops are pretty good about that. I’m more inclined to grabbed the mini14 for now, eventually grab an AR, if and when I move out of this state.
That’s wild that they just assumed it was good to go, haha flying under the radar big time.
Did you ever have it modified or even sell it to you?
@Michael1989 Welcome to our community, we are glad to have you with us.
Why would you think we in the community would know how to interpret MA. laws when the politicians who voted them in don’t even know or understand what they voted for?
We actually get this type of questions fairly often from anti-2A states.
Our stock answer is, “FLEE BROTHER FLEE”.
Pretty sure once 10/23 comes, anything not owned before 8/1/24 is illegal, pre-94 or not… im looking into if we get the petition signed, and pushed back til a vote in 2026, if that vote went for it, would 8/1/24 still be the grandfather date
There may be some members from MA, give a shout out.
