PSA Dagger Mags

I started testing two PSA 15 rd mags in my 43x. I want to run them awhile and see if I eventually will carry them.

PSA is on gen 3 of their mags. I had 0 issues today at the the range. They worked 100%. I did have a mag loaded for over 3 weeks and it was perfect at the range. I didn’t run a full mag of hollow points. I stacked the mag with 11 FMJ and then ran 5 hollow points (one in the chamber plus full mag). I’d like to run more Hollow points in the future but those suckers be pricey.

BUT there are two things I don’t like about these. They are difficult to insert into the gun. If I were to carry them I may run them 14 + 1. My fear is that’s a lot of pressure on the mag release. They do insert fine when the gun is locked back and load perfectly when the slide release is pressed. The OEM mags fit nice and easy when they are inserted.

My other concern is the baseplate bulges. There are actually after market baseplates for this issue… but I don’t want to ditch oem mags for a non oem mag that now has non oem parts. I also know PSA is not known for great QC, though I’ve heard their customer service is decent. It would be aweful if the baseplate blew off in public and I have a 1 shot gun with rounds all over the floor and in my pants :upside_down_face:.

That being said there are some serious pros. 15 rounds in the mag is a huge plus, and they functioned 100%. Unlike shield arms, they do not require a metal mag release, so I can switch between oem mags and psa. I do like PSA as a company.

If they continue to run flawlessly I will consider carrying them. I usually only carry one mag in the gun. If I’m only carrying one mag, it will probably stay OEM. I could definitely see PSA becoming the spare mag of choice. When I travel out of town, the carry gun becomes the home defense gun and I like having more ammo for that.

Sometimes that is the only way to safely use such magazines.
In this case you are trying to use double stack mag in a handgun that was designed to use single stack mag.
That means the double stack mag tension coming from the spring / rounds / follower is more than expected and you need a little bit of space to compress it once you insert magazine to closed slide handgun.
It’s not a case once you open the slide and inserted magazine doesn’t have any resistance coming from the slide.
Hopefully the spring wears out overtime and you will be able to use full 15 rds capacity.

If you look around there are some good deals on rounds right now and also on Monday, Cyber Monday.

I used these sites.

Pricey or not… do not be cheap on this testing.
Buy SD ammo you gonna use and buy another box of the same product for testing.
Run full box of this ammo to find out if it’s reliable with your handgun and magazines.
Looking for less expensive SD ammo for testing and then using different SD ammo is simply asking for troubles.

If you already bought expensive G43X that means you can afford extra box of SD ammo

I ran a whole oem +1 mag. During my time. Wanted to just verify oem was good to go before I played around with the PSA mags. I think it’s going to take me time to get comfortable with the PSA mags, but if they work they work.
