Poll: Should our military finally be allowed to concealed carry on bases?

To me this is a “no brainer”. As former Special Forces, I know that training for on post carry could easily be done and there is NO reason trained soldiers should not be allowed to carry and defend themselves. We should not allow the current “ gun phobia “ in our society to get in the way of defense and self defense.

I’ve always thought it was typical of the government to make assbackwards rules
That troops weren’t allowed to carry a weapon
On a mil base, what that tells me is that they do not trust the people they trained to be
Trusted to handle a firearm! They don’t have much faith in the people doing the training! There are some that do carry firearms on the base! Not all… just look at the people in the swamp,do you trust any of them to do anything rite?? None on the left have the brains to blow their nose , that goes for
For some on the rite as well

Yes yes yes!!! They should change the rules immediately

Absolutely, I believe if a sidearm is your assigned weapon, you should be part of the uniform. Off duty should be your own defense weapon.

As a retired Veteran, Yes, they (we) should be allowed open or (preferably) concealed carry with proper training, especially after what has happened on our bases the last few years.

I served from 61 to 65 and when in any uniform, it was mandatory to carry. I feel it should still be & concealed when not in uniform should be allowed.

Yes they should be able to carry however they see fit. These guys can die for our country in a foreign land, but they can defend themselves at home. That is absurd. Our government has no problem handing firearms to them to defend others, but it is an issue if they defend themselves.

I tend to agree in my career in the Navy I ran across several people that made me nervous when they had an armed watch sure wouldn’t want them armed all the time.

I think the answer is NO. They should be carrying all the time. It’s part of their uniform. If the training is deficient fix it.

The uniform is different in garrison. Some may be in dress uniform, others in battle dress. Full battle dress with combat gear only happens when going to range, field exercise or combat.

The real “reason” for the current weapons restrictions on military installations is that the appointed head of “Homeland Security” under the Obama administration imposed many unconstitutional restrictive measures on installation commanders. The most intrusive of which is that ALL FIREARMS TAKEN ONTO AN INSTALLATION MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE PMO. The next most intrusive and again unconstitutional measure is that REGARDLESS OF STATE LAW no one other than CID and DoD police are allowed to carry concealed or open unless actually on duty. (This one even “re-defines” what on duty means because military personnel have always been on duty 24/7 and subject to immediate deployment and they still are but they are “on duty” for purposes involving being armed ONLY while performing that scheduled shift requiring it.)

Such regulation is required Congressional Approval before implementation but these restrictive regulations and changes to previous regulations involving Arms on military installations by “Homeland Security” simply skipped over that requirement so Congress, OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES” have never had an opportunity to approve nor disapprove them.

Yes military should arm all time as need because they are our globall protection

@Edward53 thank you for including that… I wondered how it happened :face_with_monocle:
Not loving that reason though… any time the checks in place are deliberately gone around I think we have a problem.

But isn’t that a problem that should be addressed anyway? If they’re not stable even on watch, are they fit to serve?

This is why are great county is going backwards with the socialist’s agenda! Common sense says "if we trust you to put your life on the line for your county and carry a weapon we should allow one to do on a daily basis. In uniform open carry, out of uniform and retired vets concealed carry.

Not everyone on a military base will be in uniform all the time. Off duty individuals will be wearing civilian clothes.

Yes oh yes, after proving proficiency, not all can shoot straight, that is why they have automatic weapons for times of conflict

Concealed or not our military should always be privileged to carry in a military base at all times. Why only carry in combat, technically they’re still active and trained with firearms. I believe it’s unfair not to let them carry in their own military base. They protect this nation but can’t protect themselves in feared situation in plain sight. Let them carry all them carry all they want.

They should have the option of open or concealed. At the bare minimum on guard personnel SHOULD CARRY.

I think that E3 and above should be permitted to carry either open or concealed. Difficult to assume a recruit in basic might have the required skill and experience or even the discipline to carry.

Difficult to assume that about anyone. But it’s a constitutional right, not limited by the requirement to prove anything… only to be a law-abiding citizen of legal age.

I’m not seeing the reason to put more restriction on them because they have volunteered to serve than any other citizen of legal age.
