Pandemic Purchases: Did you buy a new gun this weekend?

Another brand you may want to try out for your group is the Federal Gold Medal Ultra-match. It is up there with the old Wolf (German manufacture, now it seems all I find is Wolf loaded by Eley). I bought a Ruger Prec Rimfire last year and it can do jagged hole 5 shot groups at 50 yards with the Fed Ultra match and the old Wolf loads.

Thanks. I’m going to enlist my son, to show them how natural point of aim with a rifle works.

I’ll check it out. Is it 40 grain? That’s what the rules mandate for 4H competition. 40 grain, round nose, and not exceeding 1250 FPS.

It is 40 grain and 1080 FPS. The RP Rimfire is a bolt action so I am not sure how well it will cycle your guns, it sounded like you had a few issues with that from your video.

So here is a bit of Covid-19 Unobtanium Scoooooorrrre. The pistol on the bottom is a full size 1911. The pistol on the top is an LAR Grizzly in 45 Win Mag with cartridges for more comparison. :star_struck:  :star_struck: .

The main thing I’m interested in is refreshing my concealed carry “collection”, but that can wait until all the panic buying is over. Instead I’ve focused on accessory updates/upgrades to some of my existing firearms, which so far I’ve had no trouble buying online.

On a positive note, I found out this morning that Shoot Point Blank is now opening the range again 2 hours a day to members only. From 10a-12p the range is back in operation. I tossed 150 rounds downrange this morning. It had seemed like forever since i had been there.

I have to report, that I did put money down on a gun. It wasn’t because of the pandemic, I’ve just been waiting 20+ years to find a good condition, used USP45 standard at a decent price (my Expert is just too big for CCW). One popped up at my local shop in their used cabinet for about half the price of a new one, and it looked new except for having a dirty chamber. Finally…

Yes indeed! Bought a Winchester SXP and 250 rounds, ammo/bandolier sling strap…
Any reason is a good reason to buy another firearm.
:+1:t2::+1:t2:
Wasn’t because of any kind of fear regarding the epidemic. I’ve been wanting a 12ga for a while and this seemed like the time to do it.

Yes…three actually. I had them on Lay -A-Way and paid them off and picked them up. Ruger Mark IV Hunter (Stainless), Glock Model 44, Ruger 10/22 (Great White Shark).

More important, I was able to “Open” my new Gun Range Saturday. I had a range built on my property. (I live on 6 acres in the country, mostly wooded.) After having the trees cleared 125 yards deep and 20 yards wide, I had 6 Backstops installed. 10 Meters (Olympic Shooting) 15 yards, 25 yards, 50 yards, 75 yards, and 100 yards. Behind the farthest Backstop (Built out of cypress logs, is a 15 foot dirt and log berm. No one lives behind me, but safety first! I will never have to worry about finding a decent place to shoot again. I have a two person Shooting Shed with a working bench at the rear and two shooting benches at the front. (I think it is 16 ft wide and 12 feet deep.). All of it is Under Cover. The posts are Natural Cypress Logs and the roof is Hunter Green Metal. Adjacent to the Shooting Shed is a 14 X 22 ft Pavilion. It has water and electric ready to be connected. (Next Bonus Check!). It has a concrete pad floor and the posts and roof match the shooting shed. Both structures were constructed by American Woodworkery, of Vander, NC and they are beautiful.

If I can figure out how to attach pictures, I will. Maybe Dawn can tell me how.

@HenryRugerGlock - Welcome to the Arena, uh sorry the forum. Glad you
are here.
I must confess I did buy a firearm. I found a new Savage 308 with stainless barrel
for distance shooting. Got a deal on it. Now to find the scope with a tremor 3
reticle that won’t cost me my first born. Just so you know, when I get to go to
Thunder Ranch - It is mandatory to have the tremor 3 reticle to shoot there…

@Mike_T the 1911 is detailed in the DIY section “RIA: The VooDoo that I do” as it started life as a Rock River “Standard” and I fiddid wit it. The LAR has been on my bucket list since the 1980’s when I saw one for the first time. I still have some more to do to the RIA but I need some dedicated time as it will require serious concentration.

Cheers,

Like buying up all the toilet paper in sight, I think it is more of a panic a fear of not being able to buy tomorrow. Than a change in stance, but it has caused people who would not normally go buy up all the reloading supplies to do so. It has been interesting to watch.
