Outdoor Range Upgrade

My wife and I were to our local/nearest outdoor range this morning and saw they’ve been doing some upgrades. Concrete pads now instead of sand at the pistol and rifle firing ports, assortment of metal targets and target stands that you can put at any distance. Two shooting ranges about one half done where you can rent one by the hour and be able to move, drawl from the holster. Tactical ranges i think their going for with this. Sales of ammunition also. This range was created by a woman with six children on a family cattle ranch.

I guess it helps when the woman loves to shoot also. She travels a few times a years to shoot at some national competitions.

Keeping my hopes up. Everyone be safe and responsible.

Hoping to get more time out regularly to take advantage of this range.

That’s a nice option!

Once you go steel it’s difficult to use paper. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Haha…it’s called “steel addiction”.

:joy:

However different training requires different targets. For practicing shooting fundamentals - paper is the best.

Only if you are sighting in or you can’t hit the side of a barn.

I don’t know…it’s hard to measure the size of your shot group on steel. Sighting in goes without saying. Of course, it depends on what degree of accuracy one is looking for.

But steel is fun.

I spray my targets black then add a coat of yellow on top, you see the groups very well.

You are fortunate, my friend. The range I attend provides the steel targets and paints them each morning; usually white, sometimes orange.

Until the end of the day when I have to pack them up

Ask them to go two-tone! You never know. Good marketing ploy!

I went with red base cote, let it dry, then used a magnetic stencil and top cote of white.

Nice red aim point, and the impacts are easy to see as well!

I have a 5 1/2 foot Sasquatch in my backyard hiding behind some bushes looking like he’s heading to the center patio. When we first visited a great nursery after relocating to Utah, I saw their metal Sasquatch’s and just had to get one of the big ones.

The steel is too thin for Target fun and the price is too high to justify destroying it!

In order to see my groups I occasionally put a stick on splatter target on the steel. Usually I just bring the paint cans to the range for a quick touch up.
