I would argue working to change the tax code and social security withholdings so that it does not fall squarely on the middle class and working poor is doing something of value. But that is just me, some of you all would rather enjoy the benefits of living in a functional society without actually contributing towards it. So your greatest hope is to achieve an income level where you can keep as much of your wealth without having to share it. I read Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged and thought Ayn Rand was special. Then I read about her life and how she lived on welfare and sucked a lot of cock for money. There is a reason those books are sold in the fiction section.
And this is where you are wrong, they pay income taxes, it comes out of every paycheck. Just like you only see just 50% of your paycheck so do they. And just because they see a return does not mean they didn’t pay taxes, they did. For 12 months they could not collect interest in the money they paid into, this is huge. Interest is how your income benefits you. You want to know why rich people keep getting richer, it’s literally interest. It’s the entire reason we use banks.
No they don’t. Wow, take a look at the tax code.
A return? You mean a refund? You do know that one does not need to pay income tax to get a refund, right? Please educate yourself before you respond to me.
No, not intetest. Wow and you claim to be wealthy? Keep proving your ignorance. You use banks? I have one checking account to pay monthly bills the rest of my liquid assets are not in a bank. You are amazingly stupid.
So you are telling me that people living at poverty level don’t have income taxes taken out of their pay check? Really? You believe that people making less than $33k a year pay no income taxes, that is incredible and probably one of the reasons you hate the poor so much.
What is the percentage of the American people who don’t work at all and still receive a tiny stipend of money. I am truly interested in this statistic which will be completely offset by the retired.
And I am sorry you don’t understand how interest works, keep doing what you do boo, interest is my friend
You guys have abeen busy while I was away. To sum up:
-
the $185k cap will be removed or significantly raised
-
those collecting SS income will have that SS income taxed if they have other investment income or other earings above a certain amount, so the wealthier will not get any or very little SS income. In other words, SS income will be phased out based on total household income. (right - it’s just “icing” so you don’t need it).
I’d be curious to see how close those two things bring the account to solvency. If not, then SS taxes will need to be raised. No other option.
An no one hates Musk because he is successful. People don’t think it’s fair that the uber wealthy don’t pay the same pro rata tax as everyone else. And yes, that is a “loophole” created for and exploited by the wealthy.
People keep trying to kill him or see him harmed, or steal the money he earned. No one hates Musk? Nice try.
Yes, I know what interest is. Most money is invested in companies, stocks, property, etc. Yes, there are bonds, but even there, a lot of the earnings are in trading the bonds on the bond market as the interest rates on the bonds typically is far less than what can be earned in the market, stocks and bonds.
I was not referring to those that don’t work. We were discussing those that file income tax returns. Ever hear of AEIC and EIC? That is money from the government in excess of taxes paid, if any, which means even those that have no withholding tax, can get money back when filing their income tax returns.
Where did I state that? However, for 2025, an AGI of $18,200 or less for a single, and $36,400 for joint filers resulted in a zero or less federal taxable income, and therefore no federal income tax liability. Some of those would also be eligible for EIC, if they did not get AEIC that covered what their EIC payment would be.
I hate the poor? Please quote where I stated such non-sense. I was poor, I have no hate for anyone just because he/she is poor. Neither do I hate anyone. Hate is a terrible emotion to have, it destroys your mind and body.
I say it’s going broke because the Federal Government Took The Money for God knows what, with a phony ass promise to pay it back…
It would not be going broke if they ended the social security tax limit. It’s insane to me that someone living in poverty or middle class will have 100% of their income taxed for social security while someone making $250k a year will only be taxed on that first $184,500.
I could fix social security tomorrow by just eliminating the social security tax limit and setting a 6% interest rate for the Federal Government to barrow from it. The issue is I would never win that election because those making over $184,500 a year would literally contribute more money than they would ever be taxed to prevent me from being elected.
Like it or not our country is full of people who would rather spend their money preventing others from moving out of economic bondage than be taxed. I read an amazing book when I was in my teen years by Friedrich Hayek, it was called "The Road to Serfdom" which formed so much of my Libertarian views. But what the author missed is there are multiple ways to serfdom. He focused on the Government turning the population into serfs through loss of individualism and taxation.
However he completely missed how Corporations can just as easily turn us in Serfs by controlling incomes. Which makes sense in the 1940s when the book was written corporations were being taxed and were not focused on the highest return for investors. Today the investor is number one and them getting a return is more important than the people who work for the Corporation. A company would rather lay off employees than report lower than expected numbers, which is kind of nonsense. Investors should not come before employees, investing is a risk, employment should not be.
History has proven, if there is a pile of cash in reach of our politicians, They’ll Spend It It. There will be an “Emergency” that absolutely NEEDS to be addressed and that $trillion dollar bill that is just sitting there is The Only Way they will be able to save the people.
As public servants, their money should go first for these emergencies. Then ours…if we agree.
“public servants” , yeah we are in the bizarro world these days.
Speaking of the bizarro world, I thought I saw this the other day in passing… typical Congress, first bills timeline is nearly expired and the second is … typical Bernie, though no mention of having “the billionaires” pay for it…so, maybe not typical Bernie. I will say typical Congress, as in the end, nothing will happen though they’ll still be paid. I do agree on removing the cap.
Oh yes, a cost of living raise every year. Hummm, for the past years, people’s payments have decreased a few dollars every year because the government raises your cost for certain medical and insurance coverage you have within S. S. I’ve noticed my payments dropping by multiple dollars year to year as others within my family members.
Tell me again about a raise.
It is interesting that so many people are quick to throw a fit about SS drying up, they don’t understand how SS works. It’s not something that you pay in to get back. It is something you pay in to pay others. You are paying for the generation that retired already. The reason it is “drying up” is that the previous generation, Baby Boomers are the largest generation. Now that they are retired, the rest of us can’t cover the SS that they are collecting. So, Congress is going to say it is going to end so that we have to pay more to keep it going.
It’s just another example of the government robbing Peter to pay Paul. If Paul 's money would have been invested by Paul for Paul with no government middle man handling the money, we’d be fine.
I’ve not run the numbers, most of us equally pay our fair share of taxes, but my being almost on the verge of tears and on a lighthearted note, I’m reminded of the Boston Tea Party of 1773.
I disagree, it has always been a pay into a “Lock Box” where the money will be kept until you turn 60- 62- 65 - 68… They raided it and THEN started the line:
They had to, they took ALL of the money, they left the “Lock Box” empty. If you or I ran a scheme like they have we would be in the crow bar hotel.
They also don’t give your benefit (from your earned money) to anyone you wish. It should be a beneficiary system, not one where if the government killed everyone, they get to keep the money. It wouldn’t surprise me if Covid was part of a plot to reduce those collecting SS.
