@BubbaBear917 The article is actually about a concealed carrier being assaulted. Not an open carrier.
A quote from the article… “for which he holds a concealed carry permit — and place it on his hip underneath his coat.”.
IMHO… he simply sucked at CC.
Thanks for the correction.
Since the whole COVID-19 pandemic started I have been open carrying as a social distancing measure. I also wear a shirt that states “I’m comfortable with violence.” I know I’ve drawn a lot of attention, and some of that attention may have been negative, but no one has ever said anything thing negative to me. Oh, and my holster is a straight up thigh holster with extra magazine pouches and super conspicuous. Yeah, I pretty much put my self out there as the biggest D-Bag possible.
You know what tho? It works. The only comments I get are generally people asking if I’m carrying a 40, and I say nope, Its a 9 because most of my guns are 9’s. They may also ask about the “I’m comfortable with violence” shirt, because its got Krav Maga, Muay Thai, BJJ, and other MMA, stuff on the back that I’m totally out of practice at, but still have a working knowledge of. So in the end, it actually filters a lot of interactions and I only end up interacting with people that are at least somewhat likeminded.
That being said, yes, one day I may run into that person that just wants to prove themselves or whatever, but I’m guessing that they will at least think twice before making a move. Also, I’m more than happy to be the first to be targeted and give someone else a chance to live.
Today, was another open carry day for me. Took my daughter to the range today and she wanted to try a couple different type of .45. I wore my new USCCA Protector and Defender shirt
(Black Shirt, Yellow Lettering). Clean cut, clean shaven even stopped went in and filled car up and got snacks.
Even made a new acquaintance who I talked to about the USCCA with.
No snowflakes melted, no police officers called, no mass hysteria.
Hi Charles154,
I live in Nevada, (Open Carry State), and I open carry everyday. Sheepdog556 gave you good advice. Choose a good holster with good retention. I position my holster where the inside of my forearm can always feel the grip of my firearm. It’s just an awareness thing for me. I too am waiting for my CCW to be issued so this way I’ll be able to carry both ways depending on my surroundings. Quick story that happened to me today… I just finished an appointment with a client and stopped to get gas and it was not the best of places. As I was filling gas in my vehicle some guy drove up behind my vehicle, got out and immediately started asking me to give him some gas after I was done filling my car. I told “No, that’s not going to happen today”. He then started asking me for money for gas as he began walking toward me. I simply turned my body to the left just enough to let him see I was armed as I was telling him “No, can’t do it, get back in your car”. I also pointed at him while I was talking to him. It didn’t take him long to figure out that I’m the wrong guy to mess with. Texas Eskimo mentions that Open Carry can be good when viewed as a deterrent. In my case today, it proved to be a positive result with no altercation. I guess what I’m trying to say is, always be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to everything around you. Things happen quickly and you need to be on your toes
SKIIdaho, I just responded to Charles154 about knowing where your firearm is at all times. Like I told him, I position my holster where the inside of my forearm is always touching the grip of my firearm. And, as far as a whacko taking your gun, well, that’s where you have to always be in “YELLOW” mode all the time. Always pay attention to what’s around you and who is around you. Don’t ever get caught with your pants down. Don’t get me wrong, this is not about living in fear or being paranoid. This is simply PAYING ATTENTION.
Wish I was young again. Hope you’re built like Arnold. Even if I could open carry, I still like the idea of surprise.
I have a retention holster for open carry days, but if someone were to be trying to take my weapon. I am pretty sure that I could discourage them PDQ with some of the other defensive options I carry.
No threats intended. Just mentioning that I do have other optional self defense available to disabuse someone of the the idea that I am an easy victim.
I live in an open carry state and have never open carried. Sometimes I feel like it and I start to contemplate should I or shouldn’t I. I guess concealment is just a habit to me doing it for 38 years. In uniform was the only time I ever open carried. So maybe one day I will try it but as of right now I’m good with concealed carry. But when I do it I will make sure my USCCA family knows about it and how I felt.
Blessings to all.
