I recently bought 1 and the pin that separates the upper from lower is very tight. The gunsmith had to hit it with a pick. He said he could drill it out but decided not too cause it was oval. Is this common on guns. the company was previously ANDERSON. thanks
Did he push it with a punch, or did he have to use a hammer and punch to hit it out?
I have Anderson as well as Aero Precision lower receivers. I either use a punch to push the pins out enough to grab them with my fingers, or if no punch is available, I use a bullet tip to start the pins out.
Ive had some that were tight also. I always replace my pins with more of a qd thing. They have a head on them to grab some you dont have to punch them out
I’ve got a few Anderson, Daniel Defense, PSA and Aero Precision lowers mounted to Dirty Bird, Aero, bca,Spikes, DD and Aero uppers, and all 9 guns disassemble the same. Push pin flush, then thumb and index finger to grab the head and pull. Teaching moments are often the result of having an issue and sad/not sad I’ve never had an issue in this area.
IIRC now Ruger, which is known for top notch customer service. You might want to give them a call.
he used a punch i like the bullet idea. i just not too familiar with cleaning it and don’t have the AR15 equipment
I was always under the impression that a push pin, bullet tip to start then pull with fingers, maybe brand new tightness maybe but push pin should move with little pressure
is my dealings
the guy at the desk tried and gave up then it went to the back to gunsmith for about 15 mins. i asked him if it should be that tight. most said no but i called one-horse and he acted like it was normal tight specs?
Just brainstorming here … both pins are retained in place by a spring loaded plunger. I wonder if yours was assembled with the wrong end of the plunger towards the pins? One end of the plunger is tapered so it retains the pin(s) securely in place, but can slide over/off the retention groove machined into the pin(s).
Do the pins move freely once they start moving? If so, I would have a smith investigate the retention plunger installation. I would test this with the upper off the lower.
i will ask the gunsmith who got it out if he thinks its backwards? thanks for the suggestion
