Olympics 2024

Aside from puff daddy, or whatever his name is carrying the torch…if anyone going to watch? There’s (still) shooting.

I’ll probably watch here and there when I get a chance. I like watching some of the different sports you don’t get to see very often. It’s also good to see people who have devoted significant chunks of their lives to one goal doing everything they can to try and achieve it.

I’m going (actually I’ve been already doing this) to watch :

No, you mean futball… just being a pain.

Don’t watch much of them. I only hope that our athletes remain safe while there.

I’ve given up watching most sports and TV now. Gotta subscribe to ESPN or some streaming channel in order to watch. That shyte used to be free. You don’t survive by giving your money away. Unfortunately too many people are blind zombies. As PT Barnum once said: a sucker is born every minute.

It is a tossup for me, Fuutball, tennis, or ping pong?

I don’t think m we actually have a way to view it-no cable TV, no streaming service that covers it.

I do have friend in Paris. Had a layover there for about 6 hours one time. Got a whirlwind tour of downtown. Cool place.

As a one time competitive swimmer, diver and gymnast, I’ll watch those three disciplines, until someone disrespects our country!

Used to shoot trap at one of the clubs Kim Rhode shot at. Cheered her on ever chance I got to watch her. So will probably be watching some of the shooting.

If you have regular broadcast TV within range of your house, you can get them over the air on NBC.

I’m sure we’ll watch them a bit at our house. Over the years I’ve enjoyed the Olympics. The Tokyo ones sucked because of Covid, and the Chinese abomination of winter Olympics was un-watchable for me for political reasons.

I hope things go well for the French hosts. As our oldest and one of our closest allies they’ve taken a lot of terrorist hits on behalf of the West, and I pray they stay safe. I expect they’ll put on a great show.

I assume I need some sort of antenna for that. don’t have any kind of antenna. But appreciate the tip! Agree on the well-wishes of the good French people.

Last I looked, you can go to Wally World and get a digital antenna for $30. I have one in a window. Works great until the cats found it and constantly knocked it on the floor.

Lots of people don’t know this, but a simple pair of rabbit ears works to receive digital signals. $8.59

I bought a $30 amplified little parabolic type TV antenna and put it in my attic pointing south toward all the TV stations. I don’t have cable TV, so I hooked it straight into the house cable wiring. Now all the cable outlets in the house get about 80 channels or so of broadcast TV, free, clear as cable because it’s a digital signal.

You must live within 30 miles of a large metro area. We are pretty rural and still get 10 stations. It sits behind my TV.

Yeah, I do live about 30 miles from a city. The broadcasters I’m getting are between 30 and 45 miles out.

The powered signal booster makes a big difference. I got a cheap one from Best Buy. Without it I could only get the closest signals. Also, my house is 2 story, so the attic is up there. The antenna is a directional one, because all the broadcasters are to the south. With just a regular pair of rabbit ears, even up high in the attic, I got only about two of the local stations. Each station broadcasts between 4 and 5 sub-channels, so if you can hit the four major networks you can usually see about 20 channels. Add PBS and the few secondary networks and there’s more than enough to waste your time.
