I was visiting OK from Arkansas and decided to go on a nature trail to see a Waterfall. It is called Nature Trail State Park just outside Silom Springs in Arkansas.
I got a map outside the Park Office cause I could not go inside cause of my EDC.
The Park Ranger said go inside a get better directions to the waterfall, I said I could not cause I had my EDC with me.
He said" You are not allowed to have your EDC even on the trail, I told him I was allowed cause of OK state laws says. We had a different discussion and then I looked it up and showed him the statue.
These state Park Rangers want to make up their own rules and not give out the right information.
I know it is my responsibility, but these people are in the position to know the rules and have valid info for out of towners.
Yes, I agree with the others who said you shouldnāt have told them. You donāt have to tell them you are carrying unless it is the law. It is not in Oklahoma as far as I know. If he told you to go in to get the info you need and for some reason found out you had a gun when you shouldnāt it would be entrapment.
Can I just be the Burr under the Blanket here for a second?
@Johnny_F āJOB WELL DONEā Yes you could have kept it a secret, Yes it might have avoided a āSituationā (Explanation)
What you did RIGHTED A WRONG Educating the ill-informed (or stopped a Power trip). Many folkās who have the minimum in power often ABUSE that power. And āWE THE PEOPLEā suffer because it is much easier to go along to get along than STAND AND DELIVER . That day YOU DELIVERED. BRAVO!. This is what we face every day. As Concealed Carry folkās we have a responsibility to be more informed, more conscious of the gift of FREEDOM that quite frankly many piss away on a daily basis. That is why it is easier to be a Sheep than a Warrior. Even in the Civilian World we have to do it better, smarter and sharper to protect this gift for generations to come.
We have to HOLD THE LINE until the country rights itself.
Gonna sound weird, but if they were answering phone calls, maybe call them from the parking lot? IDK, just thinking out loud. But great our friend knew the laws. I know quite a few of us here do our fair share of hiking in Godās Country, per se.
It was during the long holiday and could not get them on the phone, but the USCCA app with the updated law helped me fine the info.
I was also at the Casino and the Lobby Door had no sign on it about " No guns allowed". It was eating at the restaurant and 2 security guys came up to me and they said I was imprinting and someone saw it.
I was escorted out, without finishing my dinner and as I exting I showed them no sign on this door, but the Casino door had each of the doors.
I also said I was not on the Casio floor, so I could eat at the restaurant, but they said did not matter.
I walked to the hotel door going into the hotel lobby and still no sign there also.
I did forget to do my research, and then saw on the USCCA app that guns not allowed on any grounds of the Casino, had to be locked up in my auto.
Sorry don, its not gonna right a wrong. Coming honest isnāt gonna change things. Its just gonna restrict you more. Keep your mouth shut, stay concealed , mouth shut. Head on swivel and do what you gotta do
Hear you brother. James R. is married, travels a lot, likes hip hop music, works as an attorney, and is a creator of a You Tube channel on āboom sticksā. This happened to him.
Does the hotel have signage posted or an agreement online when booking stating that they can search your luggage inside your room without your permission?
(In the comments)The hotel isnāt a FFL so how can they handle a firearm without your expressed permission?
I would have called the police stating the hotel went through my luggage without my permission or consent and they stole my $1000 dollars I was going to gamble with
Do some internet searching on some of the security cameras that casinos use. Some of the IR cameras are good enough to detect your concealed carry pistol under your clothing. The story about someone reporting you for imprinting was probably was probably a cover.
At least in casinos. Iām sure the AI driven technology is very expensive, so I donāt anticipate widespread deployment beyond casinos or other high security area in the next decade.
I did not know that but next time Iāll leave it locked up in my car lesson learned I do have a lockbox that I do put my EDC in when I go into places that I cannot carry
This sounds like BS to me, Oklahoma is totally fine with concealed carry and open carry in state parks. Maybe the Park Ranger didnāt know wtf you were talking about when saying EDC???
I am a big supporter of Law Enforcement but it often amazes me what they DONāT know about the laws surrounding permissible carry of a handgun. As an instructor, I have even had a woman challenge a point I was making about legal carry in our state by starting out her statement with āI dated a cop once and he said ā¦.ā I have also had retired LEOās take my Permit to Carry class (because they donāt like the politics they perceive involved with a newly elected sheriff and the requirement to certify under his auspices). At times they have admitted that they never knew something that is clearly stated in both our state statutes and the USCCA materials.
I was at an event several years ago, and was talking to a group of officers about firearm rights of citizens - just as a citizen, not in any capacity as an authority on the subject, just a friendly conversation. They dismissed my opinion until I stated that I was an NRA-certified pistol instructor, then the conversation completely changed. I found that interesting as they did not question that fact, though I was an NRA-certifified instructor, I did not prove that to them, only stated that. However, when they believed I was only a private citizen, without any firearm training, they dismissed my opinion, but immediately accepted it when I stated my ācredidentialsā - my opinion did not change, only their accecptance of it.
I believe now, as I did then, that everyone has the RKBA, regardless of ātraining.ā In all the classes I have taken and videos I have watched, I have not learned anything regarding safety and handling that I was not taught as a very young child by my father. In fact there is a lot I was taught that is not taught in āfiream safetyā classes and in videos. The NRA classes were the most thorough and did cover most of what I know about firearm safety. I do not shy from repeating lessons on safety because āI know it.ā I repeat and reread the obvious that we all know, the formerly NRA four āgolden rulesā. now the three āgolden rulesā, of firearm safety as others do the Bible. These rules keep us safe.
Always Keep the Gun Pointed in a Safe Direction
Always Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger Until Ready to Shoot
Treat All Guns as if They Are Loaded
And the formerly Fourth rule, know your target and what is beyond it. And as I have added, what is in front of it.
