Disclaimer: This isn’t here to start a discussion about the pros and cons of off body carry. Just sharing an off body bag that’s new and that I like. You are absolutely free to voice your opinion on off body carry anywhere, at any time. However, I won’t be engaging in any debates on the matter. And, I may just post pics of more off body options, because I’m both petty and passive-aggressive like that.
The new Stav sling bag from She Equips Herself x Cameleon bags. Small but mighty. Perfectly accommodates a micro such as the Bodyguard 2.0, keys, ID, credit card or two, phone, coin purse, lip balm. Solidly constructed in leather with a cut-resistant, fully adjustable strap and sturdy hardware. I’m enjoying the unobtrusive design that doesn’t scream CCW bag; and it conceals well under an overshirt or jacket. Available in black or tan and comes with a holster. $90 isn’t cheap, but the quality is fantastic and I think it will get a lot of use.
I completely disagree with an off body option and it simply has to do with putting your firearm in a position where it can be more easily taken from you. Purses and packs are targets for thieves because they know they hold something of value. If a thief grabs your purse, pack or bag with your firearm in it and are trying to run while it’s still attached to you, your chances of removing your firearm to deal with them are slim to none. Furthermore individuals who carry these types of bags have many instances where they don’t keep them on their body. Riding in a vehicle, sitting at a restaurant, hanging out at the beach, whatever. My girlfriend wanted to carry her concealed carry in her purse and I was like, I have seen you with your purse, you put it down all the time and even have your kids carry it, absolutely not. The mentality you have had with your purse for 30 years is not going to change just because you put a firearm in it today.
I definitely see your point of view. However, as someone who is ultra cautious with their bag/purse even without a weapon, it works for me as a viable option.
Also, it’s important to train with any off-body device.
Papa Zed has this one right. If it’s something that could be taken or attempted to be taken, it’s no place for a firearm. Sorry, convenience doesn’t make it an option unless it’s almost impossible for you to lose control of that item. And if that option is off body, I see it as a liability, not an asset.
You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. That said, I kindly ask you, and anyone else opposed to off body carry, to keep one thing in mind, please?
This thread was not started as a discussion for or against off body carry. The post is about the bag. That’s it. Thanks.
The most important ability as a CC is the availABILITY, as in you have your firearm with you. As long as it’s not a liABILITY. It’s all good.
Due to it’s small size I do think you would be more prone to have your firearm available. So that’s a win in my eyes. If using that bag, which looks nice, will help you have
I use an off body mount when I am in my car, so I understand the allure of off body carry. I use a shotgun rated magnet mount to hold my Glock 41.
I use a mount in the car, too. Even with a micro, waistband carry is quite uncomfortable for me when sitting, unless I’m wearing an under bust holster. The main keys to any holster option, IMO, are retention and draw practice, over and over, again and again.
I’m completely neutral about off-body carry. It’s a personal preference.
There’s a lot of different bags and purses, good and bad.
My only question regarding this one is - how the zipper is setup, how fast can you access the firearm and can you do this with one hand.
Was a concern of mine, as well. Certainly not as fast as a pull-down pocket yet, but pretty darn quick with some practice. Will I practice more? You bet. Do I think this will be my favourite off body carry option? No. I prefer to carry the Masada, as well as a roomier bag with a Kydex off body/mountable holster. But, I like options in regard to both weapons and holstering devices.
It’s great to have options.
Everything, even carrying, is situational dependent.
We always have to compromise something. In this case you may be slower but you still got your fireman available to you when needed.
Time shows you cons and pros and one day you may find better bag that makes your draw easier and faster.
As mentioned before, I don’t think the OP was asking for advise or permission to do this…
In any case I’ll jump in. HOW is this “off body” much different than a gun on a belt? A pouch or a holster hanging from a belt or strap serve exactly the same purpose and are basically identical in deployment and practical use. “Off Body” is putting your gun in the cup holder in your car, or the glove compartment or MAYBE a purse hanging from your shoulder. This is not… This is a perfectly acceptable way of carrying a concealed firearm ON YOU when a holster on your waist will not do for whatever reason.
As I see it, if the pouch is in front of you and secured around your body there is ZERO issue with this. I use waist pouches and other means of carrying guns concealed all the time. Hell I even use a Maxpedition sling type small backpack to carry my folding stock 9mm AR at times. I want to see someone try hiding THAT in a holster…
This is what jumped out at me as a positive for this particular bag. I’ve heard of some bags having Kevlar in them to prevent cutting. Having been to some shady places on other continents, I like cut resistant stuff.
If it works for you, you’ll hear no criticism from me!
Well, you had me at "she equips herself.} Asking a guy, Male, what kind of panties you should wear with a mini skirt he will most likely tell you not to!
I would say do not make it look tactical; do not make it look expensive. I ask how well does the gun fit in it? Is it too roomy or too tight?
I have sent other women to this site because I have no experience with bra holsters or setting up concealment for women. I know what I know and that is all I know. I am willing to learn though!
