NYC's Mayor to Limit Amount of Meat People Can Eat

I have that t-shirt. :sunglasses:

Wouldn’t it make more sense to reduce the size of people by 33%, thereby reducing emissions by at least that amount. More so, as the production and transport of food also produces the feared ā€œgreenhouse gasesā€ he proposes to reduce by feeding people unhealthy, processed, vegan-esque food.

I don’t eat cow much. I would rather eat the alternative; elk, deer, or pronghorn. So far my wife and I have been very lucky.

Elk is delicious. I’d choose that over beef any time it’s an option.
Bison is another alternative, if one wants something closer to beef.

There is always chicken, turkey, wild birds pork and fish. To someone who’s only access to red meat is cow I can understand it.

One thing I can tell you about red meat, is it has a lot more caloric value, than chicken or fish. I stopped eating red meat, my weight went down (not a good thing for me). Perhaps Mayor Adams wants everyone to look slim and glamorous, like they had been to Dachau.

I’m curious, I’ve never tasted Elk. I’m going to have to reach out to some of my hunter buddies and see what can be provided.

I’m a big fan of elk. Though big old bulls can taste a little gamey. But even their meat is great in chili or meat sauces.

Young moose is my preferred meat though. Some of the best steaks and burgers I’ve ever had came from a moose. Unfortunately moose meat is hard to come by in AZ:(. But elk is pretty abundant:)

I enjoyed moose meat while I lived in Alaska. Young moose, appropriately prepared is delicious!

Mule Deer, Elk, Moose, That’s what we were raised on. Kinda funny to think back now but in days gone by it wasn’t niche, it was normal.

I’m curious, so these are not rhetorical questions…

  1. Are there any studies on CO2 emissions from the multiplicity of products we have shipped in from other countries vs within the US i.e. China?

  2. I like the fresh fruit, vegetable, meats (fish, chicken, pork, beef) options in the grocery stores. Let’s talk oranges… One thing I notice is that throughout the year stickers on the oranges change from Florida, to Australia, to Africa (IRRC). Are there CO2 emission measurements and comparisons for transport related fruit options?

As a kid I can remember ppl would get happy when their favorite fruits would start to come into season. Ppl buying bushel baskets of fruit to can for pies or other desserts in cold weather. In a way I miss those days because it was a treat you knew that wasn’t always around. The family going black berry picking was fun too. Mom saying leave enough for us to can!

Yeah, I think it’s amazing that we can get fruit all year long, but the out-of-season fruit at the grocery store just doesn’t compare to fresh fruit picked ripe.
