New H&K .45 CAL EXP 5 3/4BRL

I just bought a H&K .45 CAL EXP 5 3/4" BRL. I am looking for your opinions on this weapon. I bought for self-defense. Thanks to all in advance! Not easy finding a quality leather holster for this weapon as well.

Check Muddy River Tactical, they have a pretty good line if IWB and OWB leather holsters.

I will second that. I have several Customized Muddy River Tactical holsters. Specifically made for my optic and light on my Glock 41, and 30.

Thanks Mike! I will do just that.

You can also look at Versacarry in the booming metropolis of Bryan, Texas.

OK. Sorry people, I made a mistake, I have a USP Expert .45 CAL. Muddy River Tactical only lists H&K for a 9/40 CAL. Don’t see leather OWB for my weapon.

This was my experience with Muddy River Tactical. I think it’s a smaller company because I called to see if they could do a custom cut, and when I called the guy who answered said he could do it, as in he could make it. I had hybrids made with the Declaration of Independence on the leather. So, maybe give them a call. Oh and they made it pretty quick as well.

I called because no body, had what I needed.

Also try Workz I use one of theirs for my FNX .45 Tactical with a light and optic. I really like that holster because the handgrip is sort of long on the .45 so it’s not easy to conceal. With a bit of adjustment it tilts, just enough, to make it easier to conceal.

I’ve got very great experience with “Tucker Gun Leather Holster”.
I bought couple of their “OWB Deep Carry DC3” holsters for different handguns.
The good about the Company is that even they do no list your exact model, there is a big chance they will make a holster for you.
I love that particular product - it’s a hard case with a leather liner inside to protect firearm’s finish.
It’s not a cheap stuff… but worth every penny.

Also Try Wright Leather Works, If they don’t stock it, they have the ability to custom make. Not cheap but quality American made and they offer a military discount of you order via phone. Had a OWB and IWB custom Holster made for mu Sig M18 with a Romeo Red Dot and Crimson Trace laser on the rail. Fit like a glove Good Luck

You might could consider an alternative like this:

This type of design doesn’t care how long the barrel/slide is.

The main negative I see is the front sight possibility hanging up when drawing.

I bought the exact same gun back in 2012, and it is my EDC weapon, and never leaves my side! It is the best of the 20 .45 ACP pistols I have owned. It is as accurate as my Wilson Combat 1911 that cost twice as much. Never did find a “quality leather holster” for it, especially hard with the green laser on it. I did find an IWB solution that works just fine! Amazon.com : KING HOLSTER Concealed IWB Retention Gun Holster fits H&K HK USP | HK 45 | P2000 | P30 | VP 9 | VP 40 : Sports & Outdoors

I probably shouldn’t post this… but what the heck… it’s an Internet, everyone can post own thoughts…

So I really value any opinion shared here… but opinions should go together with common sense. If not … it’s not a valued opinion anymore.
You may hang me, hate me or ignore me … but… as always, safety is a priority if we discuss handling the firearms.

So… First…
I’m very surprised seeing Yaqui Slide Holster as an option to be used for everyday carrying…
Second…
I’m even more surprised seeing Amazon Nylon soft holster as an option for anything… other than using it safely as a money pouch…

We have been discussing a lot what makes holster a safe one and I hope each of us really consider carrying a handgun in a safe and reliable holster…

And now… Let’s the witch-hunt begin… :kissing:

Burn, burn the Witc… Oh, he’s talking about using the right type of holster for Concealed Carry, and being safe.

Way to take the fun out of a good witch :magic_wand: burning. grumble, grumble

It’s going to take more than that to hurt my feelings!

I figured if Galco markets it, it has 5 stars with 44 reviews, it covers the trigger, and has adjustable tension, then it is probably a viable solution. I didn’t read the reviews, as I am not in need of any new holsters right now.

If not for EDC, then what is a Slide Holster’s purpose?

Wall hanger, for decoration? :joy:

It’s not so bad choice as nylon soft holster… but you have already pointed bad part of it - hard to be sure in 100% that the firearm will come out from the holster, once really needed.

I know I’m beating the dead horse, but I was curious about the background of the Yaqui Slide Holster and ran across this article about Col Jeff Cooper wearing and recommending them.

Minimalist Holsters: Yaqui-Style Carry Like Col. Jeff Cooper.

" My first real experience with a minimalist-style holster was in 1982 at my first visit to Gunsite. Founder Jeff Cooper was still involved in teaching then and carried his 1911 in a Yaqui Slide. … “This is junk,” said Cooper, tossing (my current holster) it back on the desk in front of me. “Go to the Pro shop and get a Yaqui slide on the next break, before we start range work.”

However, not so quick Gary H:

“The Yaqui Slide became popular during the 1970s when most guns were outfitted with ramped front sights. … President of Milt Sparks holster company, mentioned he discontinued production of the Yaqui Slide when Patridge-style front sights increased in popularity.”

My take away is it could still be an option depending on the design of the front sights. I don’t own any long slide or other handguns that don’t fit commonly available holsters, but if I did I might consider the Yaqui for myself. To the OP, I am just another guy with a keyboard on the internet, so a person has to evaluate and make their own decision.

Another idea for the OP to consider is looking at non-custom holsters for the HK USP-45 that feature open bottoms that the extra slide length of the the one you have could take advantage of. Just trying to help save you a couple of dollars for ammo. But, if you have the budget and time for a custom, then go for it!

@Gary_H - that is the beauty of this Community (if we cut off the whole political BS) - we share opinions, discuss, find the good and bad sides of the gear.

Jeff Cooper and Massad Ayoob, along with many other great guys had a lot of good inputs… however not all of them make sense anymore.
Firearms market changes fast and we cannot rely on every opinion that was good back in XX Century.

Coming back to OP - yeah, we gave @TOBEY few options, pointed pros and cons… now it’s his decision what to do.

BTW>
I’m a little disappointed that after 24h hrs this thread has zero inputs from other Members. It’s not a first time I see that “Gun & Gear” discussion doesn’t bring anybody to participate in posting own experience or opinion.
That’s too bad… this supposed to be a main category where people share a lot of valueable info…
Instead of this we see hundred political discussions and insulting posts.

This Community is going down… we blame Democrats / Lefties / Commies … for everything, not seeing ourselves messing up our own Community…
