I was confused, too, when I first heard about the “compact” version since, Like you, I thought the original model already was a compact. And, yes, they do offer a 10 round magazine for the 15 round model to be compliant with vertain anti-gun states and localities.
From the Ruger website:
The Security 9 model 3810 / Security 9 Compact model 3818
Barrel length: 4" / 3.42"
Capacity: 15+1 / 10+1
Weight: 23.8 oz / 21.9 oz
OAL: 7.24" / 6.52"
Height: 5" / 4.35"
Slide width: 1.02" / 1.02"
So the 3818 is just a little smaller, but I am considering it for “summer carry”. I hope to minimize cross training issues between the two since they are functionally identical.
I can.
So… Ruger just made an additional model that was still a compact just a bit more compact than the original Security 9. Though I must say a half inch wouldn’t make that much of a difference I don’t think. But then again I guess it depends on how bad it prints on you… when it does.
Yeah, it’s not that much smaller by the numbers but in my hand it seems more compact. I realignment decided yet. I currently have a Taurus 709 Slim which conceals really well but I have more trouble shooting it.
There are less expensive 1911s out there. And several of them are good quality for less than $600.00.
True, $600.00 is not exactly cheap, but it beats $1,000 or more for name brands.
Imagine coming home to find yourself in the midst of a home invasion or at the mall where an attacker is holding your wife, daughter etc using them as a shield with a knife or gun at their head/neck.
We also need to practice for precision shots because those are very likely self defense related situations.
