@Wanda3 I pretty much ignored his work and only found appreciation for Lowdown earlier this year when Pandora played it. I wish I recorded my reaction.
@Wanda3 my appreciation of Dan’s hit Longer didn’t translate to a love for Leader of the Band, it was released at the time when I entered my hard rock/heavy metal phase. It was only when I finally got ahold of the lyrics that the song hit me in the feels.
@BeanCounter Your post prompted me to look at his songs. I’d forgotten about that one but it’s on my playlist now. Welcome to Bozz-land!
@BeanCounter No surprise. The song has everything: meaningful lyrics, heart wrenching melody, and written from the heart. Something so personal became something universal.
I’m glad the younger generation is beginning to explore his music and appreciate it.
Yay!!

Chicago is heartbroken to share the sad news of Walter Parazaider’s passing this morning. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and countless Chicago fans who are all grieving his loss today.
A Rock & Roll band with horns was Walt’s idea. He put the band together and they rehearsed in the basement of his mother’s home. He is also the one who did the hard work to book shows for the young, unknown band, performing top 40 covers at local bars in and around Chicago.
We are forever grateful for his contributions. Perhaps his greatest gift was bringing people together. This amazing music may have never been heard had it not been for Walt’s vision.
Rest in Peace Walt.
@BeanCounter Well said. You know I love Chicago ,even many of their non-hits. I had not heard about Walt’s death. It is the end of an era. They brought such a high level of musicianship to their music. So many varied instruments and abilities. This song has Walt playing flute, saxophone, horn, clarinet. He will be missed and sent off with gratitude for gifts well shared.
Indeed. Hard To Say I’m Sorry and MTV introduced me to the band. I had to go back to Chicago Transit Authority to fully appreciate their music.
Saw them live only once 20 years ago (2/12/2006) when they still had most of the originals.
LUCKY YOU!!! Chicago II is my favorite album. They not only had ‘voice’, they spoke three truth through the music. A different kind of voice. And their voices go on…

Clive Davis
Heartbreaking to hear of the passing of Clive Davis. Clive signed us to Arista Records in 1980 after hearing Lost in Love. His vision and incredible ability to place the right song with the right artist was simply amazing. We would not have had the career we enjoy if not for him. We disagreed with some titles we recorded but he had negotiated the right to choose three songs on each of our albums and of course his choices, when they became huge hits achieving top 5 or better on all the charts at the time, made us realize he had impeccable taste in choosing those songs for us. He had a genuine affection for us as did we for him. He was on his way to see us in Carteret, New Jersey last month when he experienced a medical emergency in his vehicle and had to be rushed to the hospital. A fierce defender of his artists, he made hits happen for his acts at radio consistently for decades. I remember recording the vocals for “The One That You Love” in Los Angeles which Clive attended. After he heard the playback of the song, he said to Graham and I, “This song is going to number one, no doubt whatsoever” He was correct. We send our sincerest condolences to his family. A true legend and the most influential person in the history of recorded music has left a history and a legacy that will never be matched. May he rest in peace.
@BeanCounter Thanks for the info and tribute. Admittedly, I was unaware of his role as an executive in the record industry. Or the details about his role with Air Supply. But of course there are many moving parts to the songs we eventually get to hear and love. This one…like many love songs, can have other applications. This one was came through the radio when I was in a dark time in my life. In one moment, this song came on. Cross road in life. Aha moment. Lungs filled with my air supply. I know, I know, I’m a poet. With those first few piano notes…I am back there. In my car, in the moment, tears streaming down my face. Here I am.
this is something very different… found it by accident… you decide if you like it or not…
hmmm… guess you could say its sorta a love song???
interesting series of music videos…
It was my introduction to Air Supply’s music, the perfect song for a hopeless romantic like me ![]()
