Merry Christmas!

Sooooooooooooooo…theeeeeeeeeeeennnnnn…

Does this mean if I ever run into an issue, as I occasionally do and

just can’t figure if the word or words should be was and were,

passive voice, who vs whom vs whose vs who’s, semicolons, title capitalizations

and other similar roadblocks I sometimes run into, I am welcomed

to fire off the question to you instead of waiting for hours for call backs

from the libraries???

In other words, I need you at my fingertips when I get stuck. LOL

You know. My beck and call girl…lol…

And by the way, I know this is a chauvinistic statement to make, but what

the heck, I’m gonna’ make it anyway 'cause I am chauvinistic, but you

are now the second girl I know that is an engineer.

I’m adding notches to my belt here. hahaha…

But…now you’ve peaked my inquisitiveness 'cause you didn’t tell

me in what area of engineering you studied and that’s gonna’ drive me

crazy ‘cause until you tell me, I’m gonna’ be wondering if you’re the

locomotive or kaboose type…lol…

ok…ok…it was lame…but it DID put a smirk on your face.

I just KNOW it did! …and if it didn’t, then THIS DID! …hahaha

Take care Zee

@fox :smiley:
you ARE entertaining me  … but it’s actually my hubby who’s laughing himself into the snorts over the idea of “beck and call”

Medical Device Consulting Engineer… software and device design, development, test, quality, and regulatory engineering. Right now I’ve got a team of 14 engineers doing software and system test on a new device.

And just because I know you want to know… also a farmer. And a great grandmother. And a published author. And a firearms instructor. And ballroom dance instructor. And BTW, I also won an international competition in Bellydancing.

Never did get that college degree though…

And I’m always good for a grammar answer. Or a firearms one

@MikeBKY, don’t have me spewing out my coffee this morning :joy: :joy:

You can’t use that sword. It HAS to be consistent to work.

You took the ezzzzy way out with that sword.

It HAS to be ALL firearms.

Haven’t you ever heard of not bringing a sword to a gunfight? sheeesh…lol

@45IPAC yeah…same here. I too choose by design to butcher the Queen’s English. I don’t know why, but I just do.

*if memory serves me correctly, those are almost the words or title of a 50’s song. lol

Holy Cow! What a list of accomplishments. I’m very impressed. Especially I’m impressed with the combination of design engineering and computer software knowledge. Yes. Very impressed. I’m also enamored that you are a farmer, have published as an author and are a great grandma as well. Whew! Takes my breath away just putting it all together and I didn’t even include everything. geeeezzz…

And to boot, you understand the importance of grammar and can shoot.
(no, that’s not meant to show a connection)

Was that last statement about being able to shoot meant as chauvinistic?

Rhetorical question. I’ll answer…but of course I will. You wouldn’t expect anything less of me. hahaha

No, it was not meant as chauvinistic, because I want to see this family grow with your gender more than anything and I give accolades to all the females now wakening to this lifestyle. Kudos to them all.

BUT, in keeping with my true chauvinistic spirit, let’s not allow that to get out into the open and just say that it was meant as chauvinistic. lol

Ciao dear girl

@fox your secret is safe with me

My motto is Why Be Bored? Someone asked me once… “Can you do xxx?” My quick answer was “Nope.” their even quicker response was “How do you know? Have you tried?” … uh, Right. So now I try things

I used to be scared of everything, terrified really. All.The.Time. Took a ton of work but I got over it. Well, I’m still scared a lot, but it just doesn’t make my decisions for me any more. it’s much better this way. And I get to try things. sometimes it turns out I’m even good at them

yup. Better to have tried and lost than to wait ‘til ur’ in a rocking chair at an age too old to wonder if you could have.

And besides, failing is what allows us to learn, better ourselves while giving the opportunities presented to us to accomplish things. Without the failures, progress is not obtainable.

Listen. As long as I’m here, I was going to post a question that I need an answer to but can find nothing on it.

Maybe you can do something to help me out here.

I need to know if stock, OEM drilled and tapped rifle barrels for scope mounts must be either capped with the screw or plugged prior to discharging a rife.

I have several rifles that I scope mounted but never bothered to plug the drilled and tapped holes in the barrels and am now wondering if that’s not right, will affect combustion and bullet trajectory or be possibly dangerous.

If you’re not in a position to answer that, then I’ll just keep trying, so no worries… not that you would anyway…hahaha…lol…

I don’t know but I asked my hubby and he says this:

Tapping done by the manufacturer should not penetrate the entire thickness of the barrel wall and should not compromise the integrity of the barrel or chamber. It would likely have been tested with a “proof load” before it was shipped from manufacturing, and if there were an issue it would have failed at that time.

If it was done after market, you don’t know what the “safe” depth of the drilled hole is and how deep the hole was drilled, and it could be an issue although he thinks its unlikely to cause failures… just know you have a potential risk. Adding a locktited screw to the hole would minimize the opportunity for anything to get ejected out of there in case of a minor failure but would not be a guarantee of safety.

If the hole is drilled all the way through barrel into the chamber or barrel channel, different story… that’s a safety issue, see a gunsmith.

Gonna tag @craig6 and @james to see if they’ve got other info to add… they’re my go-to guys on here for this sort of thing

Thanks very much for that Zee. My concern is ONLY with STOCK, OEM drilled and tapped holes. NONE are of my own doing. Just all stock holes is my concern.

Thanks for helping. It is MUCH appreciated. Big load off my mind, ‘cause I really don’t want to dismount all those scope mounts and hunt down OEM screws for them, and I’m not gonna’ silver solder or weld ‘em either, so that’s outta’ the question.

Thanks again Zee and also thank ur’ husband as well.

@fox the hubby also says… you can use a feeler or a paperclip to measure the depth of the drill and see how that looks against the thickness of the barrel material. He pointed out the thickness of the chamber wall on my Chiappa Rhino and its less than 1/8" but is sound for 357magnums. But if in doubt… gunsmith.

oh, he also says “you might get some dust in the hole if you don’t close it up”

See…that’s the thing…I’m TRYING to AVOID having to remove the mounts and sticking a paperclip down the holes and/or plugging them, which both those things requires that.

I’m just sooooooooooo laaaaaaaaaazy, that I’m trying to AVOID that and now my mind is in COMPLETE bewilderment as to what to do now.

I’ve got them all packed tight in the back of a brand new safe I just had delivered yesterday and they are all squeezed in the back and to think about emptying the safe to get to them and checking the holes is driving me absolutely nuts now.

I know the advice he gave me is all good and any SENSIBLE person would follow it, but again, I’m not necessarily sensible, because my old age and laaaazyiness always seems to over-ride those sensibilities and is the very reason I now find myself in this quandary.

I don’t think there’s any help for me here 'cause right now I’m fighting myself and I’m my own worst enemy.

Ask your husband what he thinks I should do and for some very strong words of encouragement in the right direction here…LOL…

Thanks again as always Zee

Not sure if this will work. Never replied to a thread from my phone.

OEM sight base holes for ramp sights do not NEED to be plugged but it is advised just to prevent gunk from building up and giving moisture a place to hide. Scope base holes in the receiver sometimes go all the way through to no ill effect but should also be plugged for the same reason.

Gunplumber screw holes should be treated the same. If they are too deep you will find out when your rifle suddenly developes a COMPENSATOR in the middle of the barrel.

Cheers

@ Craig6 . Thanks for that info Craig. VERY much appreciated.

It’s beginning to look more and more like I’m just gonna’ have to bite the bullet, empty the safe out and remove the mounts to giterdone…darnit…lol…

I mean, I’m retired. I’m home all day long. It’s not like I have anything important to do.

Well, actually, I do. My fridge is empty, I need to get to the grocers to do some much needed shopping, but even THAT ‘gits’ ignored because of my laaaazyness. LOL

I don’t even wanna’ get off my arss to get my mail at the post office. sheeeesh…

I just keep starin’ at that safe…just starin’ at it and it keeps starin’ back at me.

It IS haunting me ya’ know. I just KNOW it is. With each stare, it keeps telling me that once I get started, it’ll be eezzy peezzy. But I keep sayin’ back that I don’t believe it and keep calling it a liar.

Life is SOOOO unfair sometimes, I swear it is…

pretty much what my hubby said too

@fox I’m kinda OCD so I’d probably fill them. My hubby is from the “if it ain’t broke, don’t clean it” school of gun maintenance… and his guns operate just fine, only one maintenance-related failure I know of in 20 years (and that was an antique, not a carry or self-defense firearm). Hubby says “I wouldn’t bother putting the screws in it.”

But I trust @Craig6’s opinion too. Aaaaand… leaving you to sort that one out

Damn @fox! You need a hobby. I understand you’re retired, but life ain’t lived staring at your safe. Grab that rifle, take it to the range and shoot it. You’ll see pretty quick if you need to do something. Get out the house and have some fun!

Thanks Mike. I understand what you’re saying and I completely agree, but the thing is that my life was always a very hectic one. I was always, and I do mean always on the go. I never had a chance to just sit and relax just for me and my time. There were always people around tugging me to go here or there. Now that I’ve retired, I started actually enjoying being a ‘home body’ person, having a simple life, meaning by some people as having ‘no life’ now, and just enjoy my solitude. God, I hate to have to get off my hind end to go grocery shopping or pick my mail up every day at the post office. It’s like everything’s a chore for me now. I even roll my eyes up when I have to get off the couch to the bathroom. LOL I’ve become sooooo pathetic. I really have. I’ve told my doctor of 30 years, who is a great MD which is why I stick with him, but he keeps dismissing my lack of energy because he says my health and weight are fine, so I don’t know what it is at this point. It started a couple of years ago, but I’ve been retired since 62 and I just turned 69 Dec. 22nd.

It has nothing to do with mood or depression or anything like that 'cause I’ve never been happier or more content. I just completely lack energy. It’s a physical thing and it hasn’t been pinpointed. The ONLY thing I can think of is that my MD referred me to a kidney specialist because some tests showed some peculiarities with my kidneys and the specialist said that my functions were down to working at only 40%, but he believes it to have been caused by gout medication and the amount of OTC headache pills I take. So for the past six months, I’ve abstained from that prescription and the OTC except Tylenol which he said is OK, drink 4 ounces of water every day, no pop or alcohol and with water being the only liquid I’ve had since summer if you count flavored water drops by Mia and that’s it.

So I’ve had follow-up tests scheduled since summer for this month in January to retest my kidneys to see if that helps, so I’ll soon find out, but the only thing I can think of from reading about lowered kidney functions is that it can affect energy levels. How true that is I can’t say, but it’s the only thing I can think of.

But, you’re absolutely right. I should get to the range more like I used to. My life is too close to the end to be starin’ at ‘safe queens’ …lol … I’ll keep your words of advice dude.

Thanks man and Happy New Years to you, yours, family and friends.
