Keeping your brain safe from concussions while you’re at the range?

This speaker (below) talks about some of the pressure from fired rounds negatively impacting the brain, similar to concussion, traumatic brain injury or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE); Like we see from some boxers and football players.

He talks about some of the walls/barriers in between lanes which are supposed to reduce accidents may instead increase the concussion effect.

Led me to think the concern is higher for the higher calibers. I found an outdoor range without the barrier panels which I think I’ll use more often than indoor. I’m sure others will think differently or question the evidence. I’m biased in that I’d read how the brain can be vulnerable to many everyday environmental factors. Bring on more legalization of suppressors.

Moderation? Or just “food for thought” perhaps?

I couldn’t imagine shooting my .50 indoors! :scream:

I’m guessing my round count for whole my life won’t be even close to 10% of Karl’s Erikson… and I’m not expecting to be close to any explosions.

So, whatever he says is true… but does it really apply to us, civilians, shooting at indoor ranges from time to time?

Indoor ranges I visit:

  • All lanes rifle & pistol rated up to 50 cal.
  • All Calibers Up To 50 BMG

Tinfoil hat on: One more potential infringement, citing health concerns.

It’s good that he started with,

The New York Times put out an article.”

It confirmed my suspicion.

I made my earlier infringement comment before watching the video. Just so we’re clear, it wasn’t aimed at him.

However, “nobody” is forcing you to go to an indoor range for target practice……..

Right?

To @BeanCounter ‘s point though,….

ban on indoor ranges within city limits?

Forcing legal gun owners to commute to distant and isolated places in order to exercise their rights?

It does say;

A well regulated Militia,

Which requires training.

Not necessarily forcing me, that would be outright tyranny.

“Somebody” from the NYT is thinking about something more subtle,

to limit my options = infringement.

In my neck of the woods, the nearest indoor ranges are 15 miles away, outdoor 30+ miles.

You can’t exercise your second amendment until you drive to that outdoor range! That’s the subtlety of this indoor concussion argument.

My nearest indoor range is 9.6 miles away, my nearest outdoor range is over 30 miles away, but only offers 100 yard Target. And the shooting position is still almost completely enclosed..

If I want to go to a true outdoor shooting area, I have to travel well over 100 miles to legally exercise my second amendment?

The entire state is pretty much an outdoor range wherever the white dots aren’t

And the land is cheap as hell!

I could sell my house here in Colorado and outright buy 160 acres in Nevada!!!

160 acres of sand and wind,… but 160 acres….. right? :cry::man_shrugging::man_facepalming:t2:

We call it DG, the wind only blows 300 days a year, and twice as hard when you’re trying to make a 1,000 yard shot!!

I opened my back door and shot a coyote.

@Burdo Good topic. It does seem to confirm some of my speculation about a few individuals having “brain damage.” I recognize the correlation among people that own 50 cals. and those who don’t.

This might be a solution to avoid brain damage….

Well at least you won’t be blinded by the muzzle flash!:rofl::rofl:
