Have a friend that just sold me this for $100 still in the box, she has had it for couple of years and has never fired it. After she purchased it she realized the 28" barrel was way to big for her 5’2" frame, it was her first shotgun buy. I own a 500 but planning on turning this one into my home defense Frankenstein. I have ordered an 18.5" barrel with heat shield along with an AR stock grip, plus a picatinnay rail system for red dot scope. So far all my addons are going to cost me about $200, which I don’t feel is that big of a deal. Any other suggestions for addons? I get less than 30 days ago I was saying I would not own a shotgun unless it could put food on the table however this was a buy to help out a friend who needed some money and didn’t need the firearm. And now I have an extra 12 gauge that is kind worthless but has the ability to be kind of fun.
Just make sure it does not have a pinned forend
It has a pinned forend but I don’t see how that will impact replacing the barrel or am I missing something? I was planning on keeping the action so only putting a shorter barrel on it with the AR stock.
If she was a real friend I would think you would have advised her to buy that 18.5" barrel.
Sounds like a deal to me. Dressing it up a little also sounds pretty cool. All your wanting is for it to go bang when pulling the trigger and making it look cool is even better. As for offering to help her replacing the barrel with the 18.5 , at 5.4 she would have a hard time handling recoil of the 12ga even tougher.
Have fun.
Sorry. You stated she’s 5.2. Not 5.4.
Who makes AR stocks for shotguns?
Sounds like a great deal. Send pictures when you get finished.
Plus 2 or 3 magazine extension.
High quality flashlight.
Mesa Tactical side saddle - 4 or 6 round.
Door Breech adapter. Is the 18.5 barrel threaded for a choke or is it cylinder boar? If threaded, you can get a threaded door breech adapter anywhere. If not, call my buddy Frank up at HFD2.com and get one that mounts as a magazine cap - after you get the magazine extension, of course. I think he can do magazine extensions, too.
Building an HD shotty is as personal as what a person’s HD plan is, and as much as I have had to defend my plan on this forum, I would not tell someone their build is wrong. Your HD shotty, Your build.
I did go a little different on my build than you are planning with yours, but only a little. Mine started as a Remington 870 Tactical model 25077 (it says TACTICAL on the receiver, not Express or Wingmaster or anything else). It came with a one-piece 6 round magazine. On mine, I went with Magpul furniture instead of a pistol grip because I feel a pistol grip detracts from the overall usefulness of a “FIGHTING” shotgun. The deep comb of the Magpul stock allows me to retain my strong hand grip on the weapon in the event I have to introduce the stock to someone’s chin or the side of their head. That cannot easily be done with a pistol grip.
The forend is also Magpul and I have a Magpul AFG mounted to it. I would recommend you not mount a vertical grip on the forend nor one of the “chainsaw” grips. They do not give you the straight pull on the forend you would get from a bare forend or an AFG, which could result in twisting the action arms on your slide tube assembly, therefore binding the action.
I’m excited for you about this build, and as Mike164 said, send some pics our way, before and after.
She has a 20ga Winchester youth model which she has been using, we were Turkey hunting over the weekend when she mentioned that she still had the Mossberg in the box and wanted to know if I would take it off her hands for $100, which I jumped on.
I guess I am either on the ignore list, or my question is too stupid to ask.
Sorry brother, no your not on ignore, there are a couple of outfits that make them but I am looking to get one off of ebay, they run in range from $50 to $100. This the one I am looking at:
Thank you, you don’t know what you don’t know. That is a great idea

Nice build, PAPA_ZED. I hope she brings you many years of service.
Just saw this. My Mossberg 500 has an ATI stock, 6 way adjustable. AR style. My son had the same shotgun, later model,Mossberg Scorpion/ Tactical persuader that I gave to Barry54,and he swapped it over to Magpul outfitting, more traditional style, but looks and works well, and styled after ban state AR’s
Yeah, I almost went with the AR Style Stock but I really like this stock since it holds 5 rounds inside it with a simple feed system and eliminates the need for a side saddle. I had a side saddle that would have mounted on the picatinny adapter but did not like the look or feel of it.
That looks all business. I like it
