Wow, I don’t see in this thread where anybody made such an implication. Where did that feeling come from?
My post mentioned NO ONE in particular. Just sayin’
I find the different perspectives on this incident to be fascinating. I wasn’t there. Zavier was so I’ll take his word for what that looked, sounded, and felt like.
Those who talk about how good they are usually aren’t as good as they think they are.
Those who say they are better, faster, stronger, smarter, richer, etc. than others are often using such a statement to mask their own insecurities.
Most people who are really good at something don’t talk about how good they are.
Curious diff cops diff places, I was stopped in Kansas, told the sheriff that I had a CCW. He asked where it was and please leave it there. end of that.
He was more annoyed that I did not stop for over a mile, well it was my first stop in 30 years, in Massachusetts, where I spent my youth, the State Police would be on your ass before they would light you up. I simply did not understand why a mile away he hit his lights…
Very interesting how so many here have judged this situation third hand. Especially since the OP admitted he was not paying particular attention to the conversation at first.
Where did the OP get the info that it was a “typical family”? If the Detective said that, then that should be a major clue as to his state of mind at the time, and therefore his demeanor, countenance, and tone of voice.
Consider that the conversation was actually done in such a way to relax everyone. Also, it is most likely that the Detective did not issue a citation and respectfully advised the father in such a way as to give him the opportunity after the stop to explain to his kids that he goofed and the policeman was there to remind him to be careful.
I understand the Marxist driven hatred for the police these days, but to continually see it here on the USCCA boards is disturbing.
Well, when we read the news about the screws applied to us, or when the police sit back and watch as defenseless, innocents are harmed, especially children and seniors, it does taint our view a bit. I still believe most people are good - that includes the police.
I know it is kind of a general statement but the best prevention of people being critical is tolerance. I find it gets easier the more I tolerate or the older I get.
Words have meaning. Humoring language would be more like “I’ll bet my draw is faster than yours.” Using the work “guarantee” is arrogant and smacks of itching for a reason to demonstrate.
Being offended is one’s own choice. Being humiliated is one’s own choice. Both stem from internal pride and one’s own arrogance.
Choose not to be offended. Choose not to be humiliated. If more leftist Marxist progressives made that choice, the country and world would be in a far better place.
I chose to interpret it as humor instead of arrogance.
Per your advice.
So, I’m wondering how bursting out in laughter would have played out in response to Rambo guaranteeing his draw was faster
, being so humorous and all
.
I saw a challenge issued, not one I’d take at the moment, but one I could imagine some of my “past life” friends responding to at an opportune time.
This was a teaching moment the Detective could have utilized to his benefit, by thanking the man for DOING the Right thing in advising him of his CCW. Then turning to the kids and saying, to them that their father is a smart CC license owner, who did the smart thing to avoid any issues.
Being a Smart Ass with a useless comment like that goes to show that he had no respect for the badge he wears.
What the Detective showed the family was unnecessary machoism and that he was an idiot cop. I only hope the man, latter sat with his family to explain all the facts and tell the kids the real truth about why that comment was unprofessional, unwarranted, and not to think that all cops are diarrhea mouth machos. One bad Apple always creates havoc in the pile, but if you catch it in time, it won’t affect the others.
All of the police departments around here are having trouble manning up, so they pretty much take anyone that can make it through the academy. So So many of them are young egotistical children, with a badge and a gun. To me, that doesn’t command respect. I actually feel sorry for them. I hope, when SHTF they have a mature officer with them to guide them.
I tend to interact with LEOs in my area a bit. I was at a Lic check one evening. The trooper ask me for my Lic and Registration, Here in NC we are required to inform. I told him I was CCW and had my firearm on my Hip. He said the same thing to me except without the the faster than thou comment. I laughed and said we have a deal. I guess the difference is we either know each other personally or see each other regularly. And also the last part of the Det comment would have made a difference to
