My $.02 is to kindly call people out with facts and/or an alternate opinion. If they turn into idiots, like a few here have, then I give them what they gave me. Just like left lane blockers…they take no responsibility at all.
I’ve found this to be true over the last few years only. I think that people are upset about a lot of things and the Internet is their way to be heard (not to have adult conversations). We’re going through this on one of the Subaru forums right now to. They post what they think. Someone disagrees or posts alternate facts/experience and their next post is ridiculing and insulting. It seems that many want to be god. I used to call it the difference between people who want to learn and people who want to know.
I’d also be interested in where you found to go; I’ve been drifting away for years for much the same reason. I don’t mind disagreements (I generally learn more from people with different views than those in my own echo chamber), but the personal attacks and vicious characterizations of people with different politics is just ugly.
Having said that, I love USCCA as an organization, and feel they hit just the right tone with the magazine. I’ve been asking for years for one of two things:
A members only list. My experience is that the verified members on here are generally more thoughtful and diplomatic; and/or,
More active moderation to keep the focus on issues related to concealed carry, and not all the extraneous stuff that goes on here.
If @Crockett or anyone else knows where healthier conversations are happening, I’d love to hear.
It is always valuable to hear honest reflections from members who have engaged thoughtfully over time. Wishing you the best in your new community and hoping you continue to find discussions that are insightful and respectful.
