IL Senate IL2468 Proposal

New proposal in IL Leglislature for additional taxes on Assault rifles 10% and “Assault Bullets” 10% and possibly both can go much higher. This is in the legislature now, and if passed goes to committee for study.
The bill would be additional tax to stop all mass shootings.
In another turn of events the $30 Million taken from the FOID Fund by the current Governor will not be returning to that fund, it was used already for so-called other purposes.

If it gets to the Gov’s desk that 10% tax will no doubt be another lawsuit.

Do you have a source for the funds not being returned to the FOID fund? The ISRA just files suit on this and the law seems pretty clear about what those funds could be spent on, how did they get told no refund so fast?

Yes you should contact our ISRA, you’re a member I’m guessing so just phone them during normal hours M-F.
You are an Illinois resident so you already know strange things happen to large piles of money in this state. Clear means about nothing in Illinois.

and let’s see… crazed person decides to shoot someplace up, goes to buy ammo and then says “dang, I was gonna, but that extra 10% tax on Assault Bullets… I just can’t see paying that… nope, guess I’ll just head back home.”

WTHeck to they think this will do to make people safer?
Oh… right… it’s not about making people safer.
Sorry, for a moment there I lost my head.

@Zee That’s what my State Senator Laura Holmes called it when I called the office today. You know IL is Drama and shelling out money.

@Zee. Hey pass me some of that Assault Bullet Taxes. Liberal Lunacy - Well Democrats are prolific at District Gerrymandering

Well of course any bullet that will fit in a “clip” that holds more than 3 rounds is an assault bullet…

It is clearly another attempt at 'back door" gun control by pricing people out of their 2A rights. They have wiped out most of the small gun shops already. With all the new taxes JB has created I am hoping downstate IL will rally around the flag and vote him out.

@Greg1 That will be fine with me Greg. All my life since the 1950’s when Chicago was a tame city. I was around when Richard J Daley gave Whiskey and Wine to the Poor Souls on Skid Row, my father if he was alive would be around 110 years old now but yet he is still a registered Democrat voter. So I know all about the corruption of Chicago and Cook. I hope downstate comes out to shut-up Chicagoans

Isn’t there a law a Illinois that requires all former Governors go to jail😏. Seem like for a couple decades they all have👍. I got out 35 years ago and only go back for Memorial Day to decorate family graves.

That’s funny Dwayne. Made my day. Well almost everyone has gone to prison here in Lincoln Land, except Well Recently since the 1970’s would be Otto Kerner did not, Jim Edgar did not, “Big Jim” Thompson did not but should have, Dan Walker (should have but didn’t), Some are still in prison, JB Pritzker probably will go after he is done with the activities he has been doing (tax manipulation his own), Illinois has The Who Donit Award for being the 3rd most corrupt state after #1 New York, #2 California #3 Illinois Pritzker is a peach with his ShimSham

:blush:So 4 in 50 years didn’t? Gotta love a state that is consistent in electing crooks:+1:. I lived there until the mid 80’s and got so tired of Cook county setting the rules and the rest of the state being pulled along. It’s like NY only upside down. In NY it’s the city/Long Island downstate that drags upstate along. I remember talk of seceding from Chicago…oh well. Hang in there it’s gonna be a rough ride this coming year.

This is my home, I have been here all my life with the exception of 18+ years of US Army 1969 to 1987. Our home is paid for, my cardiologist whom I trust is here, my wife‘s research is here. I grew up in Chicago we now live in DuPage in Lisle, it’s overall quiet, we own a second home that also paid for. Governor Rauner was a Republican, JB is a liberal Democrat very liberal. We have everything we need and don’t want for anything. I was a Funeral Director and Embalmer in my second career. I don’t want to move and start all over in a new area Dwane Sir; new neighborhood, yada etc. when you’re younger it’s cool when you’re a little older not so much. God Bless You and stay safe.

Robert, I grew up way down south (Williamson County). I too am an older guy, grew up hunting and woods running. At 12 my best buddy and I used to ride our bicycles across town with shotguns across the handlebars to get to our favorite dove fields. The good old days- now kids doing the same thing would create a panic and the cops would be called😳. Heck, we even used to stop enroute at a sporting goods store to buy extra ammo…

Wow! Well that’s really cool. Back in Chicago city limits some of the Chicago public schools actually had .22 rifle ranges and the NRA supplied rifles and ammunition in the 1950’s and very early 1960’s it all stopped after President Kennedy was killed 1963, I went to Catholic school but back then it was a common part of the education to learn about firearms safety. If the president wasn’t killed it probably would have continued but who knows for how much longer. But hunting no, nobody knew how to hunt and those ranges weren’t at every school probably because how the basement’s were laid out. I’m happy for you things are better in Southern Illinois in my view. I don’t know what exactly the breakdown is the population of other than Cook Co compared to all else. I’m in Dupage county we were a Republican County up until the midterm elections in 2018. Democrats flipping it due to Gerrymandering they redistricted to pull in other Democrat areas from parts of other counties specifically Cook and Lake.
I have no love for Democrats, being from Chicago, my father was a city worker and up until I was drafted I never knew another party existed. I mean the Block Captain reports to the Ward Committeeman, and you have to vote Democrat my mother had to vote Democrat, they check your voting record or they would reprimand my father. He would lose his job at the city. Like I said, I never knew there was a Republican Party until I was in the service like I said.
