If anyone is considering a shotgun, I am amazed at this price. Don’t know how good or bad it is.
Personally I’m not a fan of what I perceive to be a “wow that’s so cheap I don’'t know how they did it. Also, I don’t know who they are” for potentially lifesaving equipment
It is generally not necessary spend an excessive amount of money to buy a durable quality product. For example, if you look at the Maverick 88 and the Mossberg 12 ga. pump all of the parts are interchangeable.
Due to my (small amount of) background in manufacturing/materials stuff, I am perhaps more aware than I would like to be that part being interchangeable doesn’t mean those parts are equal. Not even being made by the same company means that, necessarily.
No, you don’t have to spend an “excessive amount” of money for a durable quality product, but life has taught me that getting the bottom of the barrel cheapest no-name product generally does not result in a durable quality experience .
And they are very good quality from a reputable manufacturer. I find a LOT of things in the gun industry to be incredibly overpriced. I look for bargains where I can find them.
I take a very hard look at quality and reputation of manufacturer, as well as reviews and opinions on something; if it is going to be used for EDC. For other purposes, I go with whatever is affordable.
For example range use magazines, I look for the cheapest I can find. Spending $40-$80 dollars for a range use magazine is not affordable or a wise investment to me. I also have EDC mags. For those I look for best quality OEM I can find, still for the best price I can find. But I won’t sacrifice quality for that purpose. Pawn shops are a great place to find unused OEM magazines for rock bottom prices. I just got 2 OEM mags for my EDC for $60 from a pawn shop. Had I purchased these from a retail store, or even online, I would have paid $100+. So, shop smart!
I could not agree more, especially your comment about the manufacturer. Often the name on the box or item is only the name of the seller, not the manufacturer. Requires a little extra research, but a good way to save money.
Marked down from $250. The company that made it is in Turkey and supposedly has a good reputation. I go on utube and specifically search the item in question. If there are negatives they will be there. I threw it out there as a wow. I doubt anyone on this forum is in the market for a really cheap shotgun.
By the way the Maverick is good gun but not fully interchangeable with the Mossberg 500. The safety is different among other items.
How are you crimping those loads?
@Barry54 Rolled crimp
I currently use my EDC pistol as my home defense weapon. I haven’t gotten my AR or shotgun yet. I am currently in the market to get an AR soon, and then I’ll be getting a shotgun. With my current EDC/home defense pistol, I have a weapon-mounted light n it, so I can be sure to properly identify a threat before engaging.
Im new to the conversation aspect of the USCCA website. I find it very helpful and informative listening to the different but sometimes the same perspectives everyone seems to have. I personally identify with most of the comments I’ve heard and agree to some degree. I currently live in a townhouse type of housing in a somewhat rural area, rather smaller community. I personally have both edc and ar platform firearms. For night time bumps, I naturally go to my edc, with a fixed light. But if I should have time to ready the AR, then I would appendix holster my edc an proceed with the ar. The problem is that scenario probably won’t happen, (time is not on your side) so it would have to be the double stack Sig. Again, I sincerely hope that situation is not going to happen. But every time I watch the news, my hopes dwindle. Its a pleasure to be a part of this community and thank you all for your advice and thoughts.
Glad we could help. Every situation is different and each person has to determine what their best solution is, the solutions will be as varied as the situations are.
The more training, practice, and education you get, the more you realize the limitations of any one platform, be it an EDC, a full size, a shotgun, or a rifle.
For EDC to be something comfortable and convenient enough to actually be there all day every day, choices are necessarily limited, it makes good sense then, when in the home where options can open up to take advantage of better tools, that a staged long gun is there as well, because for all it’s importance, an EDC is truly very compromised in it’s performance. That is one of the reasons they teach that you keep shooting until the threat is eliminated, because the typical handgun round out of a sub-compact platform is significantly underpowered COMPARED to a long gun. None the less, that “underpowered” handgun round is it self, vastly superior to no gun at all.
I hope that none of us ever have to find out for ourselves the way our soldiers and police have, the good ones of both professions disserve more support and gratitude than ever they get.
Thank you to our service professionals, and know, that some DO still deeply value what you do for us. It’s harder now than ever to do what you do, and some of us know it’s more costly than ever to keep doing it as an ethical professional in today’s world, again, thank you.
Over-penetration, Ease of maneuvering, weight.
My AR in 6.5 Grendel has a 20" heavy barrel. Great for hunting/target shooting not so much for Home Defense.
