I put a cheap scope on my vintage 1968 Ruger... and it's actually not horrible

Definitely a Modern + Vintage mix look going on with my 1968 Ruger 10/22 (of which I put in an extended mag release, auto bolt release, and Monstrum fitted rail).

Decided to get an inexpensive scope (about 44 USD) that is a Monstrum Panzer 3-9x40 MPVO with Adjustable Objective lens which does from little less than 15 yard up to 200 yard then infinity to allow for the target to be focused with the reticle, rather than a blurry mess for closer target with ones fixed at 100 yards. I set up it’s positioning at home and made sure I had a clear coverage at both 3X and 9X before I headed to the range.

I did the zeroing at 20 (longest distance at our indoor range). Used CCI Mini Mag segmented hollow points for the initial dialing in, then switched over to the wiped down Aguilla and Armscor (My 10/22 hates the armscor ammo, the stove pipes and such goes away when I switch back to either CCI or Aguila in the same session)

The optics was really nice and clear. I was expecting least some sort of fringe, or edge distortion, or similar on something that price. But alas it was decent, very bright at 3X, and no weird artifacts going up to 9X.

The close up here is with the Aguila .22 Super Extra 40 grain copper plated round nose that I wiped down the night before from the bulk 500 box.

It’s 10 rounds at 20 yards and the red circle is 1 inch.

The 5 point paper I did freehand doing 3 rounds for each corner, and then the rest of the ammo into the center to see if it held my expected zero point after about 200 rounds. (though I know .22 recoil isn’t anything, but I know airsoft-quality accessories will lose their zero easy on .22).

And just for shits and giggles, the final round of the night, I aimed a little below the pre-existing hole (probably 9mm?) on the cardboard at 20 yards and got lucky putting a hole right next to it.

Actually pretty impressed with this vintage barrel now that I got a closer point of reference other than the leaf style iron sight I been using on it.

This weekend… taking it out and trying 50, 100+ yards.

awesome;

I had an inexpensive scope on a 50 cal inline black powder worked great till started missing deer

went back to the range and the first shot was dead on at 100 yards , the second missed the 4’ x 4’ frame

that holds the targets , smacked it with my hand and it was back dead on.

having the inexpensive scope on the 10/22 should last you a life time

Way cool. Got a 1937 Mossberg .22 rifle. On Ebay, found a Mossberg Scope, also made circa 1937, attached it, the elevation/windage dials work like a charm. I was hooked.

Got some new scope rings for it, this time 0.8” center height, it doesn’t allow for me to bring it back as far as reversing the cantilever mount, but it does bring it down much closer to the bore.

So it’s a little more natural lining up my eye to the stock.
