Hurricane Looting - How to Protect Your House?

No, you always shoot to stop. You start trying Hollywood trick shots and shooting to disable rather than center mass and you can easily end up dead yourself or on trial for AA, Manslaughter or 2nd degree murder very easily.

In every state the bar is “imminence” and if you decide that anything other than a center mass shot might “do”, it becomes very difficult to make the case that it was an imminent/immediate deadly threat.

@WildRose is correct.

To add to that if in the seconds of reaction that you are drawing a gun and going to potentially take a life when yours is being threatened and you can DELIBERATELY & ACCURATELY shoot someone in the leg. You are a better man than I Gunga Din. If you have time to take that well aimed shot you are not in fear of your life, just say’n

True. I’m in Florida where we have stand your ground. So statute covered.

Which only applies if you are facing an imminent deadly/ threat of grave bodily harm.

SYG is merely a removal of the duty to retreat, it doesn’t change the legal requirements for a justified use of deadly force.

That’s why I state earlier…you can confront them…not just shoot them…they either run, comply, or come after you. If they come at you…its all up to the reasonable person test…would a reasonable person feel a deadly threat may be eminent if several
persons were attacking you…and you are armed…they aren’t …or maybe they are…who knows? Could they overpower you and then take your weapon and use it on you? Absolutely.
