How Politicians send the message by Head Line

“Six months after acknowledging that Salt Lake City wasn’t doing enough to ensure public safety, Mayor Erin Mendenhall on Wednesday announced that “tremendous progress” has been made in implementing the city’s public safety plan.”

" …announced that 12 of those 27 strategies have now been completed. Many of them deal with emergency shelter options, affordable housing, and continuing to fight the drug problem and provide more mental health and addiction resources."

“And we’ve committed an unprecedented-in-city-history $5 million toward deeply affordable housing this year.”

“Under Chief Redd’s leadership, Salt Lake City ended June on an eight-year low for overall crime. And we’re on track to finish out the year, 2025, with over 1,000 more jail bookings that 2024,” Mendenhall said."

“According to the city’s statistics, overall crime is down, both year-to-date compared to the same time last year and over the past three-year average.”

“However, overall violent crime is up. According to the city’s statistics, aggravated assault, robbery and rape are all up compared to a year ago.”

So which is it?
“According to the city’s statistics, overall crime is down,”
or
“However, overall violent crime is up. According to the city’s statistics, aggravated assault, robbery and rape are all up compared to a year ago.”

This Left Wing Mayor keeps pulling these stunt, stand in front of the camera’s acting like Bagdad Bob, “Everything’s Good, No crime here…”

This is laughable.
I remember when I visited Reno back in 2007, the city bought out the land where an older shopping mall was, then dozed it and did this exact crap.
“Affordable housing/ low income.”

There is so much BS in this article I should just re-print the whole damn thing!
'Affordable Housing is like Climate Change! ’ (A HOAX!)

Folk’s are NOT happy!

This is Blu Balls .gov double speak! And like Karacal just stated WHEN these wonderful ‘Community Stabilizing’ projects there is cost over runs, Massive theft and Poor Quality. ‘We are from the Gubment and we…oh nevamind’.
CRIME is up! Period, Full Stop.
Hey! Let’s make more Gun Laws! MORE Gun Free Zones! , Let’s just paint TARGETS on our Children’s backs!

The VERY Sad thing about this is, some amongst us (In Salt Lake) are all proud of the “Progress” and the “Decline” in Crime Rates". I want to grab them and say "She just told you, they are coming to YOUR house and taking your stuff, Raping You, Assaulting You, Robbing You, A LOT MORE now… Sheesh, folks just don’t seem to get it these days…

Most cities segregate crime by property crime and violent crime. So in theory, overall crime is down while violent crime is up.

For instance:

Property crime in 2024 was 1000
Violent crime in 2024 was 1000

Property crime 2025 was 800
Violent crime in 2025 was 1100

So overall crime in 2024 was 2000
Overall crime in 2025 was 1900.

Crime is technically down. But there’s a lot of number massaging that goes into these figures

Here, where I live, crime is up but violent crime is way down ytd. But if you lived here you would know that violent crime is down, not because of improved law enforcement but because we had a shooting last year (very atypical in a town of 17,000). 6 people died in gang shooting. So technically violent crime is way down atm. While overall crime is up.

The way that article is written, and possibly how it actually occurred, makes it sound like both the victim and the shooter just casually walked up to the police. Odd.

That happened to me (very similar).
A Woman hopped my (8’) Wall outside as I was watering my garden, knocked me to the ground, took off all our clothes and had uninvited sex with me, then she went into my kitchen, made us Burrito’s and and she dressed and left… Cop’s weren’t called, she’ll be back Saturday! ARGH! :joy:

NOW The freaking Governor is saying he’s encouraged?

“Overall crime is down 1.3% from this point last year and 11.5% from the three-year average, according to Salt Lake police data. However, violent crime is up 8.5% from last year and 0.6% from the three-year average. The highest increases are tied to domestic violence and rape.”
