With my pistols which are basically all 9mm I take maybe 2 to 3 pistols and about 200 rounds of 9mm target ammo. I try to get out at least once a month for now but looking to increase to twice a month soon. I am a member of Superior Pawn and gun range in Virginia Beach. It has been a while since I have taken any classes though but the range I am a member of offers classes.
I would and have gone out to 2 years supply. Don’t think this stupid $hit is over yet, covid is over but now it’s politics and inflation we have to deal with for the next 3 years and our manufacturing still hasn’t caught up. Stock up now.
It varies depending on access to ranges and ammunition, availability of reloading components and finances. I always try to get the most bang for the buck from the resources I have available beit reloads, bulk ammo, or old carry ammo needing to be shot up at an indoor range, the South 40 or NFS/BLM land.
I don’t plink----every range day has an exercise or two to work on—every round fired has a purpose.
When ammo was readily available I’d try to pick up a couple of Magtech Shootin’ Size every January
Back before the 22 ammo (Federal 550 was $12) disappeared the first time, I was shooting 550 rounds of 22 every day 7 days a week. Plus, probably 50 to 100 rounds of some other calibers. Yes , never enough ammo.
I usually go to the range with a specific training goal in mind. I try to make the most out of my training within 50-100 rounds, depending on the drills I am running. I try to get to the range 2-3 times per month or more. I am a member of an outdoor range, so that allows me to have the flexibility to train for actual scenarios, like draw-to-first-hit and shoot-move-shoot.
Back in those days shooting every day, I went to get my second triple bypass, in the hospital they wanted to draw blood every day. They could not understand why they could not prick the right-hand trigger finger. I had to tell them there was a callus on that finger, go to the left hand. True Story!
I go through 50-100 rounds a week, mostly 9mm. I keep 3-4000 rounds on hand and replenish my stash when I find it available cheaper than what I paid the last time I bought.
That’s getting harder because it seem prices have hit an equilibrium for the time being (35-45¢/round including shipping) but bargains can still be found without dipping into crap ammo, although not as often. I almost always utilize free shipping.
I went to the range today and shot 30 rounds. I spent a half hour on range. I did my drills, I checked out my new re-furbished .45. New grip screws are too long and jams up the magazine. I have to use shorter screws. So, today 30 rounds and a half hour. Who knows about next week!
I have an arbitrary goal of having 2k .223/5.56 on hand and 1k 9mm. I have more than that for training but will replace what I train with to stay above those numbers.
