That photo of the “railing” reminds me of my first borrowed from a brother-in-law, deer hunting shotgun, with rifled deer slugs, it had some weight, and recoil kick to it.
After a day of hiking the snow up to our hips covered hills with it felt like I was lugging a bar from an Olympic dead lift bar-bell set.
I slept well that night.
(Winter deer
season 1974-75.)
It was 1917 side by side, 30 inch double barrel, Ithaca 12 Gauge, breach break, full choke Goose Gun, overall length 47 inches, the stock was only 17 inches, with a hard rubber butt plate.
