Government Shutdown

Republicans have not cancelled ACA subsidies (premium tax credits). Your statement, intentionally or not, is factually incorrect.

The democrats wrote the deadline into their own legislation in 2021. Then, with the Inflation Reduction Act, they extended the deadline through 2025. The democrats chose this date. Repeating your falsehood does not make it true.

H.R. 5376 - 117th Congress (2021-2022)

Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

“…Subtitle C–Affordable Care Act Subsidies

(Sec. 12001) The act extends through 2025 certain adjustments and expansions of the premium tax credit, including to allow taxpayers with income above 400% of the federal poverty line to qualify for the credit…”

Further, there is a bipartisan bill right now, H.R. 5145, that the democrat leadership refuses to sign. This bill is simple, straightforward legislation to extend the ACA premium tax credits for another year. If the democrats were actually concerned with these tax credits, and this is why they’re refusing to pass the Continuing Resolution to fund the government, why are they refusing to sign on to this bill?

The entirety of the bill:

“This bill extends for one year, through 2026, temporary changes enacted by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) that generally expand eligibility for and increase the amount of the premium tax credit.

Currently, eligible taxpayers may be able to claim the premium tax credit, which applies toward the cost of obtaining health insurance through health insurance exchanges. To be eligible for the premium tax credit, a taxpayer’s household income must meet or exceed 100% of the federal poverty level (FPL) and, after 2025, may not exceed 400% of the FPL (maximum income limit). For 2021-2025, the ARPA and IRA eliminated the maximum income limit, which generally expands eligibility for the premium tax credit.

Further, under current law, the amount of the premium tax credit is (1) generally the plan premium (conditions apply), minus (2) the taxpayer’s household income multiplied by the applicable percentage. The applicable percentage is a specific percentage that varies depending on which of six income ranges (adjusted for inflation after 2025) the taxpayer’s household income falls within. For 2021-2025, the ARPA and IRA lowered the applicable percentages and eliminated the adjustment of the applicable percentages for inflation, which generally increases the amount of the premium tax credit.

The bill extends for one year, through 2026, the elimination of the 400% maximum income limit, the lower applicable percentages, and the elimination of the inflation adjustment for the applicable percentages.”

This is why dem “leadership” won’t sign it.

Thanks for pointing out what the actual documents say, but you are not going to change any opinions of those who WILL NOT (Refuse to) see.

I applaud your dogged determination though!

Get ready to ask for papers before you save someone’s life, because that is where we are heading. Frankly I cannot comprehend a system where those in the emergency room need to prove citizenship before they are treated, for foreign tourists this will cause a lot of concern on their ability to feel safe in a country that may become hostile when they arrive at a hospital needing immediate medical assistance. When I travel abroad one of the several factors I take into consideration is my ability to receive healthcare if something were to happen to me.

If you are not doing your job, don’t you get fired?

If a business shuts down, is it not out of business?

At what point do you replace the employees?

It is the largest business in the United States. Where everyone is the consumer, even the employees.

Stop stating facts fellas! Blindly following the narrative and believing the blathering about poor people losing healthcare is what they need.

Maybe they should be asking how Obama entered the Whitehouse worth about $1 million and today sits at over $90 million. It wasn’t from selling books and speaking engagements. The ACA pocketed him plenty in kickbacks from mandatory health insurance decreed by the government.

Sweet deal if you’re a insurance company!

Of course I will not provide any factual information. I however do know that immediately after enactment of the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT in the next 4 years my medical insurance increased by 99%.

THAT IS FACT!

Obama’s net worth has increased 90% since.

Great deal for him and the insurance companies.

You don’t even want to get me started on pharmaceutical companies, ■■■■■■■■ and COVID.

Oh, and Vought’s cuts cannot happen soon enough for me. I’d say at minimum %50 reductions in each department and about another %50 of departments ELIMINATED ALL TOGETHER!

As most of them are liberals, maybe we should just start over.

Luckily, that is illegal (today, anyway). Hospital ERs must provide stabilizing care to anyone that needs it regardless of ability to pay. Which then begs the obvious question - who pays the hospital for that patient? Answer: the rest of us do. So, if any one here would take even one minute to think about it, healthcare for uninsured patients is paid for by the rest of the citizenry, one way or the other. And ER healtcare is the most expensive and inefficent kind of care. It is much cheaper to provide care before it becomes acute. So kicking people off ACA healtcare actually costs taxpayers MORE in the end than providing subsidized healthcare.

And it’s not immigrants, minorities or other classes of people that don’t fit into the Make America White Again agenda. It is predominatly christian white people that need the ACA benefits. But go ahead, keep voting against your own interests.

I hope the state of Florida sues hairgell for unleashing that BS on our highways, killing our citizens.

So not to get the thread off track, but here’s a funny story.

In order to get a marine radio operators license from the FCC you must speak English. One day I’m out in the Gulf of America, radio on the hailing frequency, and over the air comes a hail, “Tampa Bay Pilot, Tampa Bay Pilot, Dis is Yule of Deceased, dis is Yule of Deceased.” WHAT?? Who in the world names their boat THAT? Then I realized he was trying, and failing, to say Jewel of the Seas.
