Henry youth model golden boy 22 is what I bought for my daughters for her first gun. The stock is a little shorter easer for kids to shoot. But i can still shoot it with no trouble. Like stated by several others it will fire 22 lr,long, short . Mix them up it will feed and fire all of them.
I would buy the 22 CB ammo (no powder just primer) sounds like a pellet gun.
How about the AR platform in 22.
@LARRY127 I have used these to good effect on small game out to 30ft, at that range it will go clean thru a rabbit. After 30ft. the accuracy falls off in my 10-22 w/16in barrel, you have a single shot semi-auto but are absolutely silent, I have been using them for a long time with no trouble. ![]()
22 COLIBRÍLONG RIFLE SUBSONIC POWDERLESS LEAD BULLET
20 Grain
1B220337
SILENCE IS DEADLY. Perfect for hunting and target shooting at close range, this specialized powderless round is ultra-quiet and eliminates the trouble and investment of using a suppressor. It’s great for young shooters, thanks to its lack of recoil. Designed for bolt-action or revolver platforms.

Sorry wrong box pic. I was recommending SUPER COLIBRI at 590fps.
I’m looking to add one to my collection but no luck so far. Funny how all the anti-gunners buying up stuff has made it difficult for us Pro 2A folks to find what we’re looking for. Not saying they bought up everything, but they certainly added stress to the market. I’m looking for the…
- H&K 416 22
- S&W M&P 15 22
- GSG 16 22lr
This list is in order.

No need to look any further! 10/22 has vast accessories and is a great gun! I have aftermarket barrel (for suppressor) and the Magpul stock. I run the Nikon Rimfire scope and I can consistently put 1.5" groups at 100 yards. ALL… …DAY… …LONG…!
Heck, what else do you need? >(I know, by the way, you need it in a pistol!)< >(Welcome to the Ruger 10/22 Charger!!)<
Have fun and remember to …breathe…
@Jo_Bu_Slimen Welcome to the community, we are glad you are here. Stay safe, Bruce and Nancy.
I do like versatility!
I saw one of these today at the store. Really wanted to pick one up, but thought of how my wife would react having bought a gun a few weeks ago ![]()
. Will have to keep my eye open in the coming months… or years ![]()
.
For real though, this one is at the top of my .22 list.
I like the Rugar 10-22, but I have seen a rugar be picky on ammo, and even break and have to have a part sent in and a gun smith fix it. I would personally recommend them as the best .22 but I also think they can be over hyped.
Sure ..with any firearm. Doesn’t happen often but…
Also just got my conversion set-up from cmmg but alas can’t find any cci 22 for it.
I understand that. However, removing a magazine and racking or pulling a bolt, and visually checking the chamber is different than having rounds in a tube.
Ok so perhaps my confusion here. Tube being barrel or tube magazine?
The area where the next round is waiting to come up into the chamber when the action is worked is what we are talking about. You can see that the casing is partly out of the magazine tube, when you remove the spring loaded insert the round can stay there, without any pressure on the round even working the action doesn’t move the round up and it can stay in place, when you replace the spring loaded tube then you have pressure on the round and when you work the action you can unknowingly load the round.
So the answer to this problem is to keep the action clean, when you unload the gun work the leaver with the insert in the tube and visually check the action, you should be able to see the casing.

The Ruger 10-22.
Why mess with perfection? Not only is it great out of the box, but it is about as modifiable as an AR.
I’ve seen one be picky with ammo and even break because of. Maybe it was a dud, or maybe the ammo was bad (it was federal though).
Great memories there. Good, classic American fun.
Any Bolt action 22s I’m thinking of range toys I can get a lot of time out of now that ammo is hard to come by

When I turned 16 in 59 for Christmas Santa brought me a J.C. Higgins single shot 22 and I thought I was on top of the world. It is one of those that every time you fire it you have to pull the safety back and it sets the firing pin so it will fired. It is a very nice rifle and to this day I think I would rather use it than any rifle I own. I learned t shoot with it and when I was young you could go down to the local ditch and shoot at cans or anything you could find. No one ever called the cops on us for shooting there and we had a lot of fun. J.C. Higgins equaled Sears back then. It was their sporting goods line. I think that rifle cast around 60 dollars or so.
I’m saving my pocket change for a CZ 457 myself. That’s another great option, but, a little more money than a 10/22 or Marlin 60/795 rifle.
I was going to mention a CZ, as well! I love the thought of buying an AT-ONE.
I have an older 455 Varmint that I have been using for rimfire benchrest matches. Pillar bedded and a Yo Dave trigger.
Tiny 5 hole clovers at 50 and < dime size at 100 yrds.
I shoot Eley Team at $13 / 50 but it’s still economical for the amount of fun, IMO.
You should try some Wolf Match Extra. It’s great Ammo, and 8.99 for 50 rounds. It’s what I use to really find out what a rifle can do.
