Worthwhile 22LR Pistol Option

BASED ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, please:

What is a rock solid, semi-auto 22lr Caliber Pistol? Thinking of purchasing one to introduce others to firearms which is still reliable and reasonable to clean.

I know of the G44, and have been suggested the Ruger Mark 4, but I don’t actually have actual 22lr experience in a pistol.

Thanks!

Two I’ve had good luck (and very accurate shooting with) are the Sig Sauer P322 and any Volquartsen.

GSG 1911-22 is my choice

M&P is a good choice

My 92FS is superb. Feels exactly like the 9mm and is a treat to shoot.

Which type of .22LR ammo for semi auto, if any, has less risk to be a dud ( misfire/failure to fire) or jam/stove piping? Does higher grain mean less jamming or not really?

I’ve had better feeds and few misfires with:

CCI Stinger 22 LR 32 Grain.

I’ve had great luck with CCI Blazer.

I like my Baretta Neos.

Yes, CCI is good. Whatever .22 cartridge you get, get copper-plated, lead rounds are dirty, and lubed ones get your hands greasy and dirty. CCI is one of the cleanest .22 rounds I have fired, Remington is fairly clean, too. .22s seem to be dirtier than other calibers, so if you do not want carbon-build-up issues after 100 rounds, spend a bit more for the cleaner rounds.

Many say that they never clean the barrels in .22lr. I still run a bore snake through mine after every range visit.

On firearms, the Ruger Mark is very nice to shoot, but won’t mimic a “regular” pistol, so it depends on your next steps for whomever is going to shoot it. I also love my SR22, but it is small in the hand. These three are my choices and I really enjoy shooting all of them.

If you already have a Glock, an Advantage Arms conversion kit will most likely work well. I put one one a P80 Glock 17 clone and it runs great with t’bolt even though the kit says DO NOT USE REMINGTON THUNDERBOLT which is good as I had 10k rounds of that at the time. It runs well with other ammo as well, and they make slides for the G19 and 17, maybe other models. My only other .22lr pistol is a Ruger SR22 which is a solid dependable da/sa hammer gun. I’ve heard good things about the Taurus tx22 I think it’s called but no personal experience.

Colt 1911-22 and Glock 44 were my go to toys for a long time. I just quit smoking for 123 days so I bought an Sig P322 with the $$ I saved. I really like it and my old eyes like the red dot optic.

I ditched all my other .22lr pistols and replaced them with an Sig P322. No issues.

Believe it or not, the Taurus TX22 is a great 22lr pistol that has reliability above it’s price range and outside of the norm for the brand. Also easy to disassemble and clean, loading the magazine goes easily as well.

I am also a fan of the M&P 22 pistol, although cleaning on that one is just slightly more onerous.

One of my nieces has the TX22 and loves it.

I liked M&P22C.
It gave me few issues at the beginning, but after polishing the ramp and the breech all was good.

The best what has been working for me → Marvel 1911-22LR Conversion Kit. Works with any 1911 / 2011 pistol. Super reliable and accurate.

My recomendation for ammo - if possible, use 22LR High Velocity.

I definitely like my Ruger MK4, I would like to get a G44 to add to my collection as well.

As for ammo, I actually have had great luck with armscor! And obviously CCI

I’ve got one of these to fulfill my inner cowboy.

Played around with the idea of a G44 but I’ve figured for my training moneys best spent on 9mm.
