The above knife is given out by Tim to members of the USCCA Staff who give a lightning talk in front of the entire USCCA team during one of our all-company meetings. This one isn’t mine, it belongs to @Chris - he had his on his desk at work. Mine is at home.
I don’t know I would take it hunting with me, but it’s a sweet knife with a 7" blade.
Oh I’ve had venison plenty of times and like it. And I have some friends here that hunt deer, but they claim the land they’re hunting on the owners restrict them to family only (at least that’s the story they’re feeding me )
Truth be told I have cleaned/gutted deer more often than not with my EDC knife than anything else.
I did take a Gerber B.M.F. (w/ saw back) on my first elk hunt and much to the chagrin of my Dad for giving me crap about the size of it was put to good use opening up the sternum of a bull elk as the saw was 3 miles away.
I carry my given EDC until I break it or loose it. I used to carry Spiderco’s as they were issue knives but kept breaking the blades. My current EDC is a well worn “Sig Sauer” promo knife that was part of the 3rd place prize table from the Gastonia Sniper Conference back in '08. Good steel, heavy blade, drop point and a wicked sharp edge (thank me very much). Also very handy for cleaning finger nails and such. It has put the insides on the outside for at least the past 9 years which is more than a couple.
I tend to stay away from fixed blade knives while hunting as they have a tendency to get stuck inside you if you are unfortunate enough to take a fall. Lost a good friend that way.
Well I dont know what a Lightning Talk is, but can I come up and give one?
This is my hunting knife… well, actually I don’t hunt, but it MUST be my hunting knife. Or my fishing knife. I keep it in my fishing kit in my truck… because when I asked the Ann Arbor police about legal fixed blade lengths, they said… “yeah, we don’t actually check the blade length on fixed blade knives if they’re in your tackle box…”
So, even if you don’t hunt, I recommend having a knife…That is a sweet blade!!
and aww come on @anon25963094 I’m playing, but seriously nice blade bro!!
Oops, to clarify, a lightening talk is like a mini-lecture (5-10 min, some are like longer depending on the venue) to share knowledge with the audience. It’s usually on a topic that the speaker has a lot of knowledge in or information to share.
I did one on things I’ve learned since I started at the USCCA that have helped me achieve more - including a bit I had learned from someone else’s lighten talk that helped me get over claustrophobia when I went snorkeling in Belize.
The two big ones in the top pic rarely leave the house. The Case has a 9 1/2” blade. It would go in and come out the other side on most people. The KaBar I just won a few weeks ago from KaBar for sharing a post on Facebook.
The bottom is a Benchmade Auto Stryker and is part of my EDC along with the Glock 26 in the top photo.
