For No Reason

Thanks for posting this graph. The questions for me are around the years of the most dramatic changes:

  1. What caused the decrease from 1993 to 1999? It looks like a decrease from 23,330 murders to 15,222, a decrease of more than 34%. Bill Clinton was President during those years, but I have a hard time believing that he had anything to do with that.

  2. What caused the increase between 2018 (16,937 murders) and 2020 (21,156 murders), an increase of more than 24%? Donald Trump was President during those years.

I didn’t think you were thus the wink in my reply:)

I was just using your graph to explain how these problems are ongoing and very complex. Laying the blame on single people like with the Trump or Biden did it mantras is just ignoring all the other factors and responsible parties who in many cases are far more to blame.

Despite their unconstitutional use of executive orders over the past several decades Presidents still have fairly limited abilities to affect change without the cooperation of the House, Senate and all their big money puppet masters.

And crime, particularly murders, is a local phenomena, not something DC folks can do much about. Murder is often a domestic violence event, and the spouses who kill one another don’t consider anything done in DC.

I agree to a point. Violence is often localized in certain areas due to local factors. But State and Federal failed economic and social policies also eventually lead to increased poverty and other stressors which then lead to increased crime and violence in those local trouble areas and eventually spreading to safer areas as well.

The graph is racist, transphobic, and antisemitic.:grinning:

Jerzees,
The ā€˜Meadowlands’ is a vast area of reclaimed acreage that use to be a dumpsite.
They built Giants stadium on it (Jimmie Hoffa is said to be buried in one of the End zones.
(Fitting I think) ā€œThis is the end… my only friend the end!ā€ā€”the Door’s
Anyway, Mobster’s and Gang’s (Irish,Italian etc) would take the ā€˜Stoolie’, Traitor, .gov informants
out to the Meadowlands and 'choot dem in da head and stick a baby Chick in der mouth!
Dead Traitor’s tell no tales! Snitches with Stitches! Yu can’t squeal if yer dead!

Like the criminal protection laws in states like Illinois. Prosecutors that refuse to prosecute thugs. not prosecuting because of racial imbalance in prisons. evil is evil no matter the racial or gender makeup of the individual.
You’re right, we can’t lay blame on a single person.
But the liberal soft on crime agenda is more likely where the fault lies. No consequences for the crime will lead to more crime, just less documented crime.
I tried selling Real Estate in the late 70’s, one of the things that was pushed was how to lie with statistics, at least in my area it was. So all the statistical figures in the world doesn’t sway my opinion.
